Deeper PRO+ 2
PRO+ 2
Three sonar beams, built-in GPS and phone-based mapping make this a handy swim-finding tool. Just don’t mistake a clever picture of the lake for a guaranteed screaming take.
- Castable, phone-connected sonar with built-in GPS for creating depth maps from the bank.
- Three beams: 7° narrow, 20° medium and 47° wide.
- Weighs 90 g, with a stated scanning depth range of 15 cm–100 m.
- Advertised Wi-Fi range up to 100 m and operating time up to nine hours.
Make sure it’s the right one. This is the Deeper PRO+ 2 with built-in GPS and three sonar beam options, not the original PRO+ or a CHIRP model. We haven’t tested it on the bank.

Who it suits
Is it right for you?
Great for
- Carp anglers exploring unfamiliar lakes. Mapping depth changes helps you make a more informed swim choice and build useful knowledge for later sessions.
- Roaming coarse anglers on larger waters. Finding shelves and deeper channels can give your search some direction when the bank offers few obvious clues.
Maybe skip if
- Anglers on sonar-restricted venues. Fishery rules come first, regardless of how useful the gadget might look.
- Occasional anglers fishing small, familiar swims. A plummet or marker setup may already answer the questions that matter without another device to charge.

Quick verdict
Proper useful homework, not a magic bite button
The PRO+ 2 makes sense if you regularly tackle unfamiliar water and want to build a clearer picture of depths, contours and possible fish locations. GPS mapping and three beam widths give it more scope than a simple depth checker.
It’s less convincing for someone fishing the same familiar commercial every weekend. You’ll need suitable casting tackle, a charged phone and permission to use it — and you still need to turn what’s on screen into sensible fishing decisions.

The enclosure construction and practical design look well suited to the job, though long-term durability hasn’t been checked by us.
Three beam options and the stated scanning capability offer plenty of flexibility, with real-world range still dependent on conditions.
Better knowledge of depths and contours can improve location decisions, but the sonar can’t guarantee feeding fish or good presentation.
Phone-based viewing is convenient, but safe casting, connection management and interpreting returns bring a learning curve.
GPS mapping and three beams give regular explorers a solid reason to invest, while occasional depth checks make a weaker case.

The full rundown
Everything you'll want to know about the Deeper PRO+ 2
The Deeper PRO+ 2 is for that moment when you’re staring across a lake and thinking, right, what’s actually out there? You can see the island, the reeds and perhaps a cheeky showing fish. What you can’t see is the shelf halfway across, the deeper channel or how sharply the bottom drops away from the margins. This little castable sonar is designed to put some of that missing picture on your phone. Handy stuff, especially when you’ve only got a short session to get your bearings.
The idea is straightforward. Attach the floating sonar to suitable tackle, cast it into the area you want to investigate and bring it back steadily while watching the returns in the app. It connects to your phone over Wi-Fi, rather than needing mobile reception for the sonar link. Built-in GPS lets you create depth maps from the bank too. That’s the bit with lasting value: instead of remembering that a swim was vaguely deep somewhere beyond the reeds, you can build a much clearer picture over repeat visits.
What separates this particular model from a basic depth-checking gadget is its choice of three beams. There’s a wide 47° beam, a medium 20° beam and a narrow 7° beam. Broadly speaking, the wider view helps you search a larger slice of water, while the narrow option lets you look at a smaller area more closely. The footprint changes with depth, though. A return on screen isn’t automatically sitting directly beneath a neat little pin-sized spot, and remembering that saves a fair bit of head-scratching.
For carp fishing, I’d put learning the lake bed ahead of chasing every fish return. Find a meaningful depth change, work out how it relates to the bank and then decide whether it deserves a closer look. Where it’s sensible and allowed, follow up with a lead to check what your rig will actually be landing on. A sonar image can guide that search, but it can’t promise that your hookbait is sitting cleanly. You still need to think about weed, bottom debris, hooklink choice and the line angle back to your rod.
There are some punchy figures attached to the PRO+ 2: scanning down to 100 metres, Wi-Fi connection out to 100 metres and up to nine hours of operating time. Those are stated limits, not promises for every swim and every phone. Most UK coarse anglers won’t need anything close to the maximum depth anyway. Connection stability, a readable screen and enough charge to finish your mapping are more relevant day to day. We haven’t used this one on the bank, so there’s no claim here that it delivers those maximums in real fishing conditions.
The physical side needs a bit of respect as well. At 90 grams, this isn’t something to lash out on a light float rod because it happens to be the nearest thing to hand. Check that your rod, line and attachment arrangement are suitable for casting that load, and follow the maker’s instructions. A controlled cast is a better plan than trying to reach the far bank with brute force. It also pays to get comfortable with the app close in before you start searching at distance. Less faff, fewer expensive heart-in-mouth moments.
Timing matters just as much as the tech. Repeatedly splashing a sonar around a tiny, quiet swim at prime bite-time could undo the benefit of finding a lovely feature. If you can, do the groundwork before settling in, or use a separate reconnaissance visit to build your map. Keep an eye on neighbouring anglers and check the fishery’s rules first. On waters where sonar is welcome, a bit of restraint goes a long way. You’re trying to understand the swim, not turn the whole lake into a gadget demonstration.
So, who should be interested? Mainly anglers who enjoy exploring and will actually use what they learn. If you move between unfamiliar gravel pits, reservoirs or larger coarse lakes, the PRO+ 2 has a clear job to do. If you fish one well-known peg and already know every step in the bottom, the case is weaker. It won’t choose your bait, fix a poor rig or make inactive fish go on the munch. What it offers is better-informed groundwork — and used sensibly, that’s a proper useful addition to your fishing.

Our take
Buy it for the bottom, not just the fish symbols
The lasting benefit is learning the shape of a swim. A shelf, channel or change in depth remains useful information long after a fish return has disappeared.
Use the sonar to narrow down your search, then check the actual presentation area with a lead where appropriate. Sonar interpretation and the feel through your rod tell you different things.
The kit
Closer look: three beams and a map you can build on
You’re buying a castable sonar rather than a self-contained screen unit. The floating body handles the scanning and sends the view to your phone. Its ABS enclosure, titanium inserts and silicone gasket are practical construction details, but they aren’t a licence to bounce it off staging or leave the seal dirty. Check and maintain it as instructed.
The narrow beam has a stated target separation of 1 cm, compared with 2.4 cm on the medium and wide settings. That describes the ability to distinguish nearby targets under suitable conditions; it doesn’t mean centimetre-perfect fish locations or guaranteed identification. Start broad to understand the area, then narrow your search when something deserves attention.
Worth knowing. The advertised 100 m Wi-Fi range isn’t a casting recommendation. Stay within the limits of your tackle, conditions and connection, and keep your phone positioned with a clear path towards the sonar.
Your fishing
Who it suits: curious anglers who’ll do the homework
This is most appealing if your fishing involves solving a new puzzle regularly. A large, apparently featureless water becomes less daunting when you can investigate its contours. Mapping can help you compare swims, understand where shallow water gives way to depth and plan a more focused return visit.
It’s also useful if you like keeping a picture of a venue rather than relying on memory. Just remember that water levels change, weed grows and yesterday’s fish location isn’t tomorrow’s promise. Combine the screen with wind, temperature, sightings and what’s happening along the bank.
For short sessions on a familiar commercial, it could be more kit than you need. A plummet gives direct information about the line you’re fishing, without phone setup or charging. The value here comes from using the mapping and scanning regularly, not simply owning another clever bit of tackle.

FAQs in full: connection, mapping and fish returns
Does it need mobile signal? Not for the direct Wi-Fi link between the sonar and your phone. Get the compatible app installed and ready beforehand, though. Account setup, downloads and other online jobs are better sorted at home than while you’re crouched behind a brolly with patchy reception.
Can you map from shore? Yes — built-in GPS is a key reason to choose the PRO+ 2. Cover an area with overlapping passes and a steady retrieve. Think of the result as the water you’ve actually surveyed, not a complete picture of everything between you and the opposite bank.
Can it identify carp? No, mate. It can help reveal possible fish targets and their position in the water column, but species and feeding mood are another matter. A promising return is a clue to weigh up alongside everything else, not an instruction to pile in bait.

Pros & cons
What we like
- Built-in GPS makes repeat visits and mapping unfamiliar water more useful.
- Three beam widths let you switch between searching broadly and looking more closely.
- Detailed narrow-beam target separation on paper.
- Useful battery endurance and fairly quick charging on the stated figures.
Worth knowing
- The 90 g casting weight calls for suitable tackle and care, rather than a casual chuck on any rod.
- Depends on your phone, battery planning and a usable wireless connection.
- Sonar returns need interpretation; they don’t confirm species or a rig-ready patch.

What anglers want to know
The stuff you’d ask your mate on the next peg. Straight answers, no waffle.
01Does the Deeper PRO+ 2 need mobile signal?
Does the Deeper PRO+ 2 need mobile signal?
The sonar connects directly to your phone over Wi-Fi, so mobile reception isn’t needed for that connection. Set up the app and download anything you need before heading out; online functions can still need internet access.
02Can it make depth maps from the bank?
Can it make depth maps from the bank?
Yes. Its built-in GPS allows bank-based depth mapping through the compatible Deeper app. Work methodically across the water rather than expecting one cast to map an entire swim.
03Will it tell me whether the fish are carp?
Will it tell me whether the fish are carp?
No. Sonar returns can suggest fish presence and depth, but they don’t reliably identify species or tell you whether those fish are feeding.
