The lowdown

  • First up, get your bearings. Potts Field runs from the boatyard fence to the railway bridge, so those are the landmarks to keep in mind when choosing where to fish.
  • Home Park takes over at the railway bridge and continues to Victoria Bridge. The railway bridge is the handy dividing point between the two named bits of this Windsor water.
  • The park has numerous fishing swims, so you’ve got a choice of places to settle in. Keep those stretch boundaries in mind rather than treating the whole riverside as club fishing.
  • Fancy a bit of float work? The club recommends stick-float fishing for roach and dace. That’s a proper starting point if trotting is your thing and you fancy keeping busy with the float.
  • For a different approach, the club points towards ledger fishing for bream, carp and barbel. Those are the named targets for a bait-on-the-bottom session rather than following a float through.
  • If lure fishing is more your bag, spinning is recommended for perch and pike. The fish list also includes bleak, minnows, gudgeon, rudd and eel, with trout reported occasionally.
  • Day-ticket sessions are dawn to dusk only. A cheeky overnight session is for members, and even then the maximum stay is 24 hours, with no return within the following 24 hours.
  • There’s a seasonal catch to remember: no fishing during the closed season, and no lock-cut fishing before 1 November each season. Get those dates bob on before planning your session.

Methods: Try the club’s recommended stick-float approach for roach and dace, or ledger for bream, carp and barbel. Spinning is the suggested route for perch and pike.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
