River Thames — Royal Windsor Racecourse

A proper stretch of Thames: approximately 1½ miles of south bank at Royal Windsor Racecourse, run by Civil Service Angling Society. Boveney weir pool, the Millstream banks and the Overflow Stream’s west bank are included too, with members allowed to night-fish.

Run by Civil Service Angling Society · checked 5 Oct 2026

The lowdown

  • There’s approximately 1½ miles of Thames south bank here, so this isn’t just a little racecourse corner. The Society’s water includes the main river plus several named features worth getting straight before choosing your swim.
  • Boveney weir pool is part of the stretch — a cracking feature to have within the fishing boundary. Keep that distinction handy: the weir pool is included, but fishing in the marina is expressly prohibited.
  • The Millstream banks are included as well, alongside the Overflow Stream’s west bank. That west-bank detail matters; don’t read it as permission to fish both sides of the Overflow Stream.
  • The named fish give you plenty to think about: barbel, bream, chub, common and mirror carp, dace, eel, perch, pike and roach. That’s a proper mixed list, rather than a stretch described around just one target.
  • Fancy staying after dark? Members may night-fish, but there’s a firm limit: 48 hours on site, followed by at least 24 hours away. A longer session still needs to fit those timings.
  • Put the seasonal closure in your diary before sorting the tackle. Fishing is closed from March 15 to June 15, and event-related access closures need checking before you travel as well.
  • Riverside parking is available between map points C and D. Keep the Society parking permit displayed throughout your visit, stick to 20 mph, and don’t cross the racecourse on foot or by vehicle.
  • Sort access before setting off and save yourself a faff at the gate. The main-gate instructions conflict, so confirm with the fishery manager; there are no public day tickets, and new membership applications are currently closed.

Methods: The named fish offer a proper mixed choice of targets, from roach and bream to barbel, carp and pike. No particular technique or swim-by-swim approach is specified for this stretch.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
