We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is a long, natural stretch at Great Linford, Milton Keynes, with 2.5 miles of bank to explore. No shortage of water here.
- The holder describes it as suitable for traditional river fishing, so it’s very much a case of finding the crease, picking a swim and working with the river.
- There are endless swims across the stretch. That gives you loads of scope to move about rather than getting boxed into one little peg.
- The river runs through the middle of the Linford Fisheries site. A bridge in the middle lets you cross between the two sides, which is handy when you’re hunting around.
- Barbel are stocked to a large size, and they’re joined by chub, bream and pike. A proper mixed river line-up, then.
- For tactics, keep things traditional: trotting or feeder work fits the holder’s description of the water. Find a steady flow and pay attention to the crease and any changes in depth.
- The water can be booked on a daytime ticket, while the 24-hour overnight ticket gives you the option of fishing through the night. Membership also includes this River Ouse stretch.
- Access comes from Wolverton Road or Little Linford Lane. For the nearest parking, use the Wolverton Road entrance, take the track on the left before the bridge, then park at the end.
- Keep mobile, tidy and respectful. Swims must stay clean, fish stay on site, and you need to remain in your swim while keeping control of your rods.
Methods: Traditional river methods are the order of the day here. Try trotting or feeder fishing around the crease and steady-flow areas, with barbel, chub and bream in mind; pike are also named for the stretch.
