Lavendon Mill (Upstream)
A proper wide, deep and quiet-looking upstream section of the River Great Ouse, tucked between Olney and Turvey. It’s a members-only Luton Angling Club fishery, with night fishing allowed and plenty of room across four fields above the old Lavendon Mill.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- The section starts at the brook inlet and runs through the next four fields, finishing at the spinney fence above the weir. Don’t push beyond that boundary.
- The river is notably wide and deep here. Summer brings slower flow, while heavy winter rain gives it a bit more shove.
- The old mill is now a farmhouse, with the upstream water sitting above it. There are barn conversions nearby, so keep things quiet and respectful.
- There’s a lawn above the weir, but fishing from it is off limits. The actual upstream boundary is the spinney fence — easy enough to remember.
- Perch, chub and roach are commonly caught. The club also reports bream over 7lb, carp over 20lb and good-sized tench.
- Barbel turn up occasionally above the weir. Summer overnight bags of tench and bream to 140lb have also been reported by the club.
- Access is via a gated, fenced club car park off the B565, followed by a short walk across a field to the river. Close every gate — livestock may be about.
- If the car park is waterlogged, members can use the lay-by and locked kissing gate. When leaving the upstream car park, only a left turn towards Olney is permitted.
- Night fishing is allowed without pre-booking. Safe rigs are required, and fixed leads or fixed feeders are a definite no-no.
- The water has the feel of a proper sit-and-wait river, especially in summer when the flow eases. Keep within the marked section and avoid disturbing residents around the conversions.
Methods: The wide, deep water and slower summer flow suit patient approaches, with perch, chub, roach, bream, carp and tench all reported. Night sessions are allowed, but safe rigs are essential and fixed leads or feeders are banned.
