We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- The stretch runs one field upstream of the weir and three fields downstream, so there’s a fair bit of water to explore.
- The lower section meanders through open fields. Proper wandering water rather than a sit-on-one-peg job.
- Expect a mixed river. Some shallow bits, long fast glides and slower, deeper areas all feature.
- It’s a stalking-friendly stretch, ideal for keeping mobile and having a good look before dropping in.
- Roving lure fishing is also specifically suited here, so there’s scope to cover water rather than wait it out.
- The venue was formerly well known for barbel. They’re still present, but MKAA says numbers are lower these days.
- The banks can be undercut, so take care when moving about. Don’t get too close to dodgy-looking edges.
- The official location is OS grid coordinates 485370E 248725N, or WGS84 52.130247, -0.754261.
- MKAA gives the nearest postcode as MK46 5AX, but says the car park itself has no postcode.
- There are river photographs around Ravenstone Mill in grid square SP8548 near Filgrave, which may help get your bearings before heading out.
- We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.
Methods: Keep mobile with a stalking approach, working the quieter areas and likely cover. Roving lure fishing is another bob-on option, while the fast glides and deeper sections offer plenty to explore.
