River Great Ouse — Tingewick
A cracking little upper-Ouse stretch at Tingewick, tucked behind the industrial park on the western edge of Buckingham. It’s around 500 yards of traditional running water, with roach and dace on the munch and some proper cover for perch, chub and pike.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- The stretch sits behind Tingewick Industrial Park, with the river reached by a short walk through woodland. Parking is available on the estate access roads, so it’s fairly straightforward once you know the way in.
- This is classic upper Great Ouse stuff. Expect shallow water and quicker-flowing running water rather than a big, sluggish main-river feel.
- The venue is suited to centrepin reels and stick-float tactics. Lovely gear for working the flow, finding the crease and keeping a bait moving naturally.
- Healthy stocks of roach and dace are reported, with regular catches up to around 8oz. A float rod and a tidy line through the swim should be bob on.
- Fallen trees and other natural features give larger perch somewhere to lurk. Pick apart the edges of the cover carefully, but don’t go charging in and spook the swim.
- Chub are present too, adding a cheeky bonus when you’re trotting or searching likely cover. Pike are also present, so there’s a bit of variety in the stretch.
- The club describes the venue as lightly fished, which is always nice. There should be plenty to explore across the 500 yards rather than feeling boxed into one or two pegs.
- Summer vegetation can get overgrown. Some pegs may need a bit of clearing before fishing, so allow time for a quick tidy-up rather than turning up expecting everything manicured.
- Night fishing isn’t permitted. This is a daytime running-water venue, with the best approach built around reading the flow, covering water and making the most of natural features.
Methods: Centre-pin and stick-float fishing are the obvious plays here, with trotting through the shallower, faster water. Work likely cover for perch, chub and pike, and be prepared to clear a peg in summer.
