We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • This is the Riverwoods Stretch, right at the end of Riverwoods Drive. A proper Marlow bit of Thames water, run by Marlow Angling Club since the club was established in 1937.
  • The club’s official map shows the permitted fishing with a green dashed line. Shared water with London Angling Association is marked separately with a red solid line, so have a good look at the map before settling in.
  • Access parking is via Lock Road from the Marlow Donkey public house. Turn left into Gossmore Lane for the parking area. Nice and simple, but don’t try parking in Riverwoods Drive — it’s prohibited.
  • The club says a public car park provides access to free fishing and Riverwoods. That doesn’t make the stretch day-ticket water, though: fishing access is through the Marlow Angling Club permit system.
  • The land between the towpath and river is private. Stick to the permitted access and keep things tidy around the water. The landing stage is private too, and anglers must move if asked.
  • Mooring is strictly forbidden on the club’s water. If you have boat trouble, the club asks you to report the boat name or number, plus the date and time. Handy detail, especially on a busy bit of Thames.
  • There’s no night fishing at Riverwoods, so this is a daylight-only job. The checked club pages don’t publish a peg count or stretch length, so don’t expect a numbered-peg layout.
  • The published Riverwoods fish list includes chub, roach, perch, bream, barbel, pike and eels. Dace and gudgeon are also listed by the club, though the site’s permit details don’t give a swim-by-swim breakdown.
  • No specific method, depth, flow pattern or seasonal approach is published for this stretch in the checked facts. In other words, bring the usual Thames kit and treat the club map and local rules as the main bit of homework.

Methods: The checked details don’t specify particular methods, swims, depths or river features for Riverwoods. Fishing is restricted to daylight hours, with no night fishing permitted.
