Bluntisham

Bluntisham is a proper fenland Great Ouse stretch — slow, deep and slightly tidal, with plenty of colour and a bit of flow. It’s traditionally a bream water, with roach and chub in the mix too.

Run by London Anglers Association · checked 6 Oct 2026

The lowdown

  • About 1.5 miles of single-bank fishing runs upstream from the car-park area near the downstream boundary.
  • The river is slow and deep, with a slightly tidal feel. Brownshill Staunch nearby marks the tidal limit of the Great Ouse.
  • There’s normally plenty of colour in the water, plus enough flow to keep things interesting. Bob on for steady feeder work or a float when the pace allows.
  • This is open fenland and floodplain country, so expect a fairly exposed river setting rather than a tucked-away little brook.
  • The venue is traditionally regarded as a bream water. Roach and bream are the main named species, with chub also present.
  • Swims are currently limited, so don’t just assume there’ll be loads of pegs waiting for you. Check what’s available before travelling.
  • For bream, a feeder approach into the deeper water is the obvious starting point. Keep the feed sensible and watch for the crease where the flow changes.
  • Roach can be worth a go with lighter tackle and a float when conditions suit. Chub may show around cover, slack water or any feature offering a bit of shelter.
  • Access is through an entrance gate with a combination lock. The number comes with the membership ticket, so no ticket means no cheeky gate entry.
  • Fishing follows the statutory close season: normally 16 June to 14 March. Parking is via the access track and car park, with PE28 3LW given for the venue.
  • We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.

Methods: A feeder is the natural first look for the deep bream water, while trotting or lighter float work could suit roach when the flow behaves. Keep an eye on the crease, depth and any quieter water for chub.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
