We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • A proper meadowland Ouse stretch, sitting upstream within the wider Little Paxton fishery. Nice open river character rather than a boxed-in commercial sort of job.
  • The main calling card here is shoals of bream. When they’re grouped up, a feeder approach or a tidy bit of float work could be bob on.
  • The wider Little Paxton fishery has two miles of available bank, but there’s no published length or peg count specifically for Lammas Meadow.
  • Downstream, the fishery splits into a navigable arm and another arm running through a large weir pool. That gives the wider section plenty of different water to explore.
  • Depths vary in the swims below the weir pool. Look for the crease, steadier edges and any deeper channels where fish can sit when the river is pushing through.
  • The association describes the wider section as holding normal river species. Barbel are noted in the weir-pool area, with fish into double figures.
  • There’s a proper mixed-fish backdrop across the wider fishery too: zander over 10 lb, pike over 20 lb, catfish, big chub, bream, eels and the odd river carp over 20 lb.
  • For the bream, a feeder into a settled crease or a patient float line is the obvious starting point. Keep an eye on colour and flow; a touch of extra water can get river fish on the munch.
  • The river waters are closed from 15 March through 15 June inclusive. Membership applications are required, and Lammas Meadow-specific night permission isn’t confirmed.
  • Parking details aren’t published for this stretch, so don’t assume there’s a handy car park right by the swim. A bit of planning before loading the gear will save a faff.
  • We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.

Methods: Feeder or float tactics for the bream shoals look the natural starting point. Across the wider Little Paxton water, proper river methods around the crease, deeper swims and weir-pool flow suit the mixed species.

  • Fishing is closed on the association’s river waters from 15 March through 15 June inclusive.
  • SDAA membership applications are required to fish association waters.
  • Standard membership does not include a night permit.
  • No Lammas Meadow-specific night-fishing permission is confirmed.
  • The night-permit restriction specifically names The Airman, Broom Lake and Willington Lake, not Lammas Meadow.
