We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • The official LAA listing calls this the Littleport/Ten Mile Bank stretch. The directory name “Iron Bridge to Sandall Bridge” isn’t used in the handbook, but the published Littleport boundaries cover the section containing Sandhill/Sandall Bridge.
  • The boundary starts about 60 yards above Littleport High Bridge. From there, the west bank runs to Low’s Farm at Ten Mile Bank, while the east bank reaches Modney Drove at Southery.
  • Over 14 miles is a fair old hike, and the LAA says practically all of the listed water is fishable. Handy if you fancy escaping the busy pegs and finding your own bit of river.
  • Most swims involve walking over the flood bank. So pack light-ish, wear decent footwear and expect a bit of a leg-stretch before settling in.
  • The named target species are bream, roach, pike, zander and perch. The LAA specifically highlights good bags of bream and quality roach fishing.
  • For a silver-fish day, trotting or a feeder approach would suit the bream and roach water, with the flow and depth dictating how heavy you need to go. Keep an eye on the crease and any steadier water.
  • Predator anglers have pike and zander on the list, plus perch for a cheeky change of plan. The handbook doesn’t give detailed swim-by-swim features, depths or seasonal tactics, so fish what’s in front of you.
  • Power cables cross the fishery at several points. Fishing is banned within 30 metres of them, so check overhead before choosing a swim and give those areas a proper berth.
  • There are signed parking areas on parts of the bank. Park sensibly and don’t block anything. Littleport station is roughly a quarter of a mile away, with Hilgay station about one and a half miles from the fishery.
  • Night fishing is permitted. Access is referenced from the A10 crossing of the A1101 roundabout, with directions via Littleport High Bridge and the road beside the river before the bridge.
  • We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.

Methods: A feeder or trotting setup is the obvious starting point for the bream and roach, while lure or deadbait approaches can target the named predators. With so much water, moving around and finding the crease should be bob on.
