We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- The fishery sits in the Eaton Ford area of St Neots, Cambridgeshire, and Luton Angling Club has owned it since the 1950s.
- You get two bits of water for your membership: the River Ouse itself and a backwater. That gives you a few different looks and swims to try.
- The club particularly notices chub and perch here. Roach, bream, tench, pike and zander are also listed, with carp having recently appeared on the stretch.
- For a predator session, the venue specifically offers pike and zander fishing. A cheeky lure or deadbait plan could be well worth a look where the water gives you a bit of cover.
- Summer boat traffic can be fairly heavy, so expect the river to get busier in the warmer months. Early starts should help you nick some quieter water.
- Access is via River Road in St Neots. Follow the track past the Bowling Club, then turn between the Skate Park and Allotments.
- There are two locked gates before the secure club grass car park. From there, tracks run through the trees to both the river and backwater.
- Vehicle access behind many swims is possible, but it depends on ground conditions. Don’t take vehicles beyond the car park in wet weather — plenty of faff avoided.
- Night fishing is allowed at Eaton Ford, giving members another angle once the boats have eased off. The junior Kingfisher membership is the exception and excludes night fishing.
Methods: Chub, perch, roach and bream give you plenty to work with, from trotting and light float work to feeder fishing. For the predators, the club specifically highlights pike and zander, while the backwater is worth including in the plan rather than sticking rigidly to the main river.
