North Bank
The North Bank is a proper iconic River Nene coarse-fishing stretch, with around 120 pegs running from the Millennium Bridge down to Dog in a Doublet Sluice. Big bream shoals, plenty of roach and perch, and regular pike make it a cracking all-rounder.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is the main North Bank section controlled by Peterborough & District Angling Association, which has been running its waters since 1875.
- The stretch follows North Bank Road from around the Millennium Bridge downstream to Dog in a Doublet Sluice. Access is available around the Millennium Bridge area, postcode PE6 7YY.
- There are approximately 120 pegs on the main North Bank. Several lay-bys offer parking, and you can park behind your peg where it is safe — just keep well clear of traffic.
- The river is a proper deep-water job in places, with typical mid-river depths of roughly 12 to 14 feet. Expect a fair bit of water to work through and look for the crease, steadier glides and any obvious changes in pace.
- A good platform and waders are recommended on many pegs, so it is worth turning up prepared rather than having a right faff once you are set up.
- Large shoals of bream are the headline attraction. Summer weights over 100 lb have been recorded, so a feeder approach can be bang on when the fish settle and get on the munch.
- Roach and perch are present in numbers, with skimmers also making up the general coarse-fishing mix. Pole and float tactics are commonly used when conditions suit.
- Pike are regularly caught on spinning tactics, giving the stretch a cheeky predator option alongside the main coarse fishing.
- The adjoining Bedford Gravels section is another approximately 120-peg area, with a metalled track behind the pegs, comfortable level swims and depths around 10 to 12 feet. It is mainly a summer and autumn venue.
Methods: Feeder fishing is a strong starting point for the bream, while pole and float tactics cover the roach, perch and skimmers. Spinning is regularly used for pike.
