Dan yr Allt Waters, River Tywi
Dan yr Allt is roughly a mile of lower-Tywi water, run by Carmarthen Amateur Angling Association. It sits close to the tidal reaches, so fresh-run fish can turn up quickly — proper handy when the river’s in nick.

The lowdown
- This is lower-river Tywi, close to the tidal water and accessed from the Carmarthen side.
- The entrance is via a farm track immediately before the B4300 when travelling from Carmarthen. Nice and straightforward once you’ve got the booking sorted.
- The beat itself is approximately 1 mile long. Exact peg numbers aren’t stated, so expect a stretch-style approach rather than a numbered-peg job.
- The lower Tywi can change character with river height and colour. Keep an eye on the flow and look for comfortable glides, crease lines and any softer water along the edges.
- Fresh-run fish can arrive quickly here. The highest CAAA Tywi beat is only about six miles above the high-tide mark, which gives the lower beats a useful position.
- Sea trout, or sewin, are the association’s main quarry. Salmon are also held across the association’s waters, with brown trout present too — including increasing numbers of good-sized fish.
- This is all-species water in season, so the approach can be adapted to conditions. Spinning, fly work and searching likely holding water are the obvious lines, subject to the rules and current conditions.
- The published ticket is a 24-hour ticket, giving plenty of time to cover the water rather than rushing a short session. A weekly option is available too.
- Maximum three tickets are stated per day. Beat maps are made available after booking, so use those to pin down the access and the best way to work the stretch.
- Dogs aren’t allowed and the beat operates a wash-off policy. Club rules and national fishing byelaws apply, so check everything before setting off.
Methods: A flexible lower-river approach is the name of the game: work likely glides and crease lines with fly or spinning tackle, adjusting to the river’s height and colour. Give yourself time to cover the mile and make the most of the 24-hour ticket.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
