We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • This is a proper flowing stretch near Acton Bridge and Dutton Locks, with the river’s navigation character adding a bit of interest. Expect moving water rather than a sleepy pond-style venue.
  • Fishing is restricted to the Leigh Arms side of the river. Keep well clear of both ends too: no fishing within 50 metres of Acton Bridge or within 50 metres of Dutton Locks.
  • Around 40 pegs are available around the back and either side of the car park. WDAA is still working on providing more, so peg availability may develop over time.
  • The gated car park sits along the bridleway beyond the Acton Bridge moorings. You’ll need a WDAA gate key, so sort that before turning up and avoid a proper faff at the gate.
  • The stretch is open from June 16 to March 14. That gives you the cooler months for some cracking winter sport, with a closed period outside those dates.
  • Night fishing is allowed, but sessions are limited to 48 hours and must be booked in advance. Check match bookings before setting up, as swims may already be committed.
  • There’s a decent mix of named fish here: chub, perch, bream, roach, pike, carp and eels, with bream, skimmers, gudgeon and rudd also reported by the association.
  • Trotting and feeder work should suit the flowing water, while sensible pike and carp approaches can cover the bigger-fish options. Keep things tidy around the pegs and watch the flow.
  • Do not dig or make extra pegs, cut trees or carry out peg work without permission. The association’s lease arrangement means this is one to take seriously.
  • We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.

Methods: Trotting and feeder tactics look the natural starting point on this flowing water, with dedicated pike or carp approaches worth considering where the swim suits. Keep rigs adaptable and fish the crease, glides and steadier water around the pegs.
