We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is River Dove fishing on the Derbyshire–Staffordshire boundary, set around the scenic Dovedale area. Milldale and Coldeaton Bridge give the stretch a lovely bit of river character.
- The club holds approximately 2.75 miles of water. Fishing is available on both single-bank and double-bank sections, so there’s plenty of room to explore where your ticket allows.
- It’s fly fishing only on the Dove. No ledgering, float gear or faffing about with other tackle here — bring the fly rod and fish to the conditions.
- The club describes the Dove as having a good head of wild and stocked brown trout. Wild brown trout are present, with stocked fish also making up the mix.
- Grayling are present throughout the stretch, and some are described as impressive in size. A proper bonus when they’re having it.
- The river is associated with Izaak Walton and Charles Cotton, adding a bit of classic Dove angling heritage to the setting.
- A river keeper is associated with the Dove water. Members are also encouraged to pitch in with voluntary working parties to help maintain the river banks.
- Private parking is provided for members and guests, and member facilities are available. Handy stuff, especially when you’re carrying the usual fly-fishing faff.
- This is members-only water rather than a general day-ticket venue. Guest tickets may be available to club members, subject to restrictions, so check the club’s arrangements before making plans.
- Barbless hooks are used for trout and grayling. Biosecurity follows Check, Clean and Dry, and dogs must not be allowed to swim in club waters.
Methods: Fly fishing only. Use barbless hooks for trout and grayling, with your approach matched to the Dove’s conditions and the fish showing on the day.
