Low Moor to West Bradford, River Ribble

A proper Ribble fly-fishing beat running for roughly three miles from Low Moor upstream to West Bradford, near Clitheroe. It takes in the famous Waddow Weir pool, with two big holding pools for migratory fish and a bit of salmon history.

Run by Ribblesdale Angling Association · checked 8 Oct 2026

The lowdown

  • This is natural River Ribble water in the rural Ribble Valley, rather than a stocked commercial fishery. The club describes it as excellent fly-fishing water, so the main game is very much a rod, line and fly job.
  • The beat runs from Low Moor upstream to West Bradford. That is a decent chunk of river to explore, with plenty of water to get your head around rather than a tiny, boxed-in club stretch.
  • Waddow Weir is the headline feature. The pool has historically produced salmon and includes a salmon-leap structure, so it is the obvious place to spend time studying the flow and holding water.
  • There are two large holding pools for migratory fish. When the river has a bit of colour or extra push, these deeper areas are the sort of places worth giving proper attention.
  • Salmon and sea trout are among the association’s target species, while wild brown trout are present too. Grayling fishing is available on the association’s waters.
  • The Ribble height information and webcam reference at Low Moor are handy before setting off. A quick look at the river level should help you judge whether the water is likely to suit your chosen approach.
  • Coarse fishing is permitted on specific beats and at specific times of year. Members can use alternative methods for coarse species, but only in line with the association’s requirements.
  • This is members-only water, with limited guest access under the club rules. Each member is normally allowed one guest ticket per season, with extra guest tickets sometimes issued for helping with club activities.
  • The association has around 110 members and provides river maps for its waters. That should make planning the Low Moor to West Bradford walk-in and finding the main features a fair bit less of a faff.
  • We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.

Methods: Fly fishing is the main game here, with trout, salmon and sea trout on the target list. Coarse methods are allowed only on specific beats and at specific times, subject to the association’s requirements.
