River Ribble
North bank of the River Ribble from Edisford Bridge towards Edisford Hall
The lowdown
- This is the north-bank stretch, so don’t confuse it with the separate south-bank Edisford Bridge-to-Siddows Hall section.
- The beat starts at Edisford Bridge and heads downstream towards Edisford Hall. Handy enough, and right beside the Ribble Way.
- It’s a natural river stretch rather than a stocked commercial fishery or a little pond. Proper river fishing, basically.
- The council says the Clitheroe fishing locations have easy parking, which takes a bit of faff out of the day.
- Any-method fishing is allowed under the council permit system, so you can choose your approach rather than being boxed into one style.
- The council names trout, sea trout, salmon, chub, grayling and roach across these fishing locations. A current Environment Agency rod licence is needed too.
- Fishing is daylight only. No sneaky night session, camping or fires on the bank, and swimming is prohibited.
- The catch limit is two brace per day, with fish under 10 inches returned to the river. Keep the permit with you and show it to the bailiff if asked.
- Juniors are catered for, but children under 11 need a parent or responsible adult with them. Junior anglers must not fish when the river is in flood.
- It’s a council-permit stretch, and permission to fish may be withdrawn at any time. Check the river and follow the Environment Agency rod-and-line byelaws before setting up.
Methods: Any-method fishing is permitted, so pick the approach that suits the conditions and your swim. The key thing is keeping it to daylight hours and following the council’s catch and size rules.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
