We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is a short section at the Greatford Cut outlet, where the cut meets the Welland. A proper little lowland-river spot.
- The nearby Welland is described as sluggish, so expect steady going rather than a raging bit of water. Handy for reading the crease and picking apart the glide.
- Fishing is from one bank only. Follow the path along the bank and fish within the section it serves.
- The path has a hard stop. Once it ends, so does your fishing — the club expressly prohibits going beyond it.
- Access is from Stamford Road, via the bridge over the Greatford Cut outfall. The A1175 needs crossing carefully, as there’s a slight bend in the road.
- Roach, dace, perch and chub are named as likely catches. A nice mix for traditional coarse river fishing.
- The season runs from 16 June to 14 March, so don’t turn up for an out-of-season winter wander with a rod.
- With a sluggish lowland feel, trotting or a light feeder approach should suit the general character, keeping things neat and mobile around the flow.
- The club controls river venues from the Deepings towards Crowland and beyond, with a wider portfolio described as 11.5 miles of Nene and Welland bank.
- The official page provides a What3Words start location and a Google Earth link, which should make finding the access point less of a faff. No specific parking arrangement is stated.
- We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.
Methods: Traditional coarse-river tactics fit the venue: try trotting for roach, dace and perch, or work a light feeder for chub and other coarse fish. Keep the approach tidy and stay within the path-end boundary.
