We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- The fishery sits beside Long Bennington, with village-edge and nearby farmland scenery giving it a nicely rural feel.
- Fishing runs upstream and downstream of the Long Bennington bridge, so there’s a fair bit of river to explore.
- Around 35 pegs are available. The fishing bank is the eastern bank only.
- Access is via the footpath from Church Street, then across a river footbridge to reach the fishery bank. A little faff, but straightforward enough.
- The Witham here is a meandering river rather than a canal-straight run. Expect proper river character and changing swims along the stretch.
- Autumn is a cracking time to target the roach, with double-figure bags reported from the stretch. That’s a big hint to get the float gear ready when the leaves turn.
- Chub are present, so keep an eye on likely river features and steadier water. Perch are in the river too and are another cheeky target when conditions suit.
- Trotting and feeder fishing are the obvious river approaches, with the best choice depending on flow and what each peg gives you. Look for the crease, glides and any steadier water.
- This is not a day-ticket water. It’s for full members only, and the stretch is shared with Scunthorpe Amalgamated Anglers.
- Parking needs a bit of care around the village. Respect resident parking, keep dropped kerbs clear and don’t park in Wood Close — it’s specifically prohibited.
- We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.
Methods: A cracking autumn option for trotting or feeder work, especially with roach on the munch. Chub and perch give you other targets, so fish the crease, glides and steadier bits of flow available from each peg.
