River Wye — Monmouth Rowing Club to Malley Brook (Glamorgan Anglers)
The lowdown
- The club describes this water as double-bank fishing, running upstream from Monmouth Rowing Club to Malley Brook on the Dixton bank. That gives you two banks to consider when sorting out your session.
- Accessible fishing pegs are present on both banks. That’s a useful starting point when choosing where to fish, though the banks can be slippery and there’s deep water close to the margins. Take proper care at the edge.
- West-bank access is generally via Dixton Church. Parking on the Dixton side is along the church access road off Dixton roundabout, but keep access to both the church and school car parks clear.
- For the east bank, head along Hadnock Road. There’s a small lay-by roughly halfway along the Hadnock bank, plus additional roadside spaces. Passing places aren’t parking spots, so leave those free.
- Barbel and chub are among the named fish, alongside dace, perch, pike and roach. The fishery also lists carp, eel, bleak, brown trout, salmon and sea trout — quite a mixed line-up.
- For coarse fishing, the club’s river season runs from 16 June to 14 March inclusive. Pike fishing has a tighter window: 1 October to 14 March inclusive. Get those dates bob on before planning a trip.
- There’s no cheeky overnight session here. Night fishing is prohibited on club river stretches, with access limited to one hour before sunrise through to one hour after sunset.
- Sort membership before loading the tackle. No public day-ticket option is advertised, and the full coarse membership portal closed on 1 April 2026 according to the membership page. Check availability first to save a wasted journey.
Methods: Taking a feeder? Keep the rig free of any fixed-feeder or fixed-lead arrangement; both are prohibited. River micro-barbed hooks are permitted, with a maximum of two rods and no live fish as bait.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
