The lowdown
- This is lower-Wye fishing in unspoilt countryside — a cracking setting for a coarse session. The association holds access at Wyesham and describes leasing its section back in the early 1990s.
- Barbel and pike are the fish named for this stretch. The official description reports barbel exceeding 10 lb, so there’s a proper draw here for barbel anglers, without any promise of what your next session might bring.
- Float fishing gets a clear mention in the stretch description. If that’s your sort of fishing, it’s an advertised option here rather than a reason to assume every swim wants the same approach.
- Roaming with a feeder rod is the other approach highlighted. That gives the lowdown a mobile feel: exploring the permitted water with a feeder is very much part of Wyesham’s stated appeal.
- The published access window is October 18 to March 2. Those dates are provisional and the landlord can change them, so keep your plans tied to the club’s permitted dates — no cheeky sessions outside them.
- There’s a gauge-dependent bait restriction to get bob on: maggots are banned when Coleman’s gauge reads 2 ft or less. Shrimp, prawn, worms and all types of spinner are prohibited regardless.
- Joining brings the gate code and emailed maps showing the permitted banks. Get those maps before heading over; the public description doesn’t give a parking location, access postcode, exact length or peg count.
- This is coarse fishing only, and salmon must never be deliberately targeted. A salmon ghillie regularly patrols the fishery, so keep the bait rules, return requirements and your fishing licence properly sorted.
- We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.
Methods: Float fishing and roaming with a feeder rod are the approaches highlighted for Wyesham. Keep bait choices within the restrictions, especially the maggot ban at a Coleman’s gauge reading of 2 ft or less.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
