We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • The club manages roughly 3 miles between Bintry Mill and just upstream of North Elmham Mill, split into Bintry Mill, Yarrow Farm, County School and Goff’s beats.
  • Yarrow Farm is a varied bit of water, with deep pools, quicker gravel-bottomed runs and a thriving wild brown-trout population. Wading isn’t essential, though some areas can be waded carefully.
  • County School gives you a mix of slower, deeper straight stretches and faster shallow glides. Wild trout are commonly found in the quicker water. Wading isn’t recommended here apart from obviously shallow spots.
  • Goff’s is the most remote beat, tucked among woodland and water meadows. Expect deep pools, faster gravelly water up top and slower, deeper water lower down.
  • The deeper Goff’s sections are known to hold large trout and chub. The upper part is generally wadeable, but don’t go charging into the deeper stuff.
  • It’s proper dry-fly and upstream-nymph water only. No chucking a feeder or lobbing anything else — keep it neat and fish the chalk-stream features.
  • Fishing is dawn to dusk, with no night fishing for day-ticket anglers. Yarrow Farm and County School run from May 1 to October 29 inclusive; Goff’s is planned for April 3 to October 29 from 2026.
  • Goff’s involves a 10–15 minute walk from the signing-in box to the river bank, so pack light and wear sensible footwear. The beats are quiet and secluded, with plenty of wildlife around.
  • A day ticket allows one stock fish to be retained on Yarrow Farm or County School. Wild trout must be measured, recorded on the catch return and returned unharmed; Goff’s is fully catch-and-release for trout and coarse fish.

Methods: Dry fly and upstream nymph are the only permitted methods. Pick apart the glides, gravel runs and crease around the deeper pools, keeping a careful eye on the shallow water where wild trout show.
