River Ouse Red House

A proper two-mile-plus Ouse stretch beside Red House, near Moor Monkton, with two very different sections and plenty of room for all methods. It’s right-bank YDAA water, day-ticketed, and capable of anything from good roach and perch sport to cracking summer bream bags.

Run by Yorkshire District Anglers Association · checked 6 Oct 2026

The lowdown

  • This is a long fishery, running for over two miles and split into two sections. That gives it a varied feel, with the depth and width changing as you move through the venue.
  • The right bank is controlled by Yorkshire District Anglers Association. It’s open day-ticket water, so you’re not tied to membership, although available swims and member access do limit ticket numbers.
  • There are no platforms, no on-site parking and no listed toilets or disabled access. The venue isn’t gated or locked, so sort your arrangements before setting off and expect a proper riverside approach.
  • The upper section is reached via Red House Lane. For the lower section, walk through the estate entrance and across the paddock towards the river.
  • The water is suitable for all methods. Roach and perch can show in good numbers and are well worth targeting with a pole, waggler or stick float when conditions are right.
  • The Ouse can throw up a cheeky surprise. Carp and tench have been caught occasionally, while some areas hold permanent shoals of big bream.
  • Summer is the headline period for bream, with bags exceeding 100 lb possible. Find one of those shoals and a feeder or float approach could keep you busy for hours.
  • Because the two sections differ in character, have a look at the water before settling in. Varying width and depth mean the crease, steadier water and likely shoal areas may all fish differently.
  • Match bookings can make the venue unavailable on certain dates, so check before travelling. Night fishing is allowed, but only by prior arrangement with the Waters Secretary.

Methods: All methods are allowed. Float tactics for roach and perch are a clear bet, while feeder work is worth considering for the bream shoals; the changing depth and width mean it pays to read the swim first.
