Collingham — tidal River Trent below Cromwell Weir
Collingham AA’s tidal Trent stretch runs along the east bank from Cromwell Weir to Collingham parish boundary, with 106 pegs described by the association. Barbel get top billing, with roach, chub and bream in the mix too.

The lowdown
- This is the tidal Trent below Cromwell Weir, so changing water levels are part of the deal. Keep that in mind when setting up your swim — this isn’t a stretch where the level stays put.
- The fishery follows the east bank downstream to Collingham parish boundary. Those are the boundaries to get straight before settling in; fishing from Cromwell Weir’s wall is firmly off limits.
- Collingham AA describes 106 pegs, but that doesn’t mean every one is available on a day visit. Some are members-only, so a quick word with the bailiff saves a proper faff.
- Barbel are the headline attraction in the association’s description. Roach, chub and bream are named as well, giving the stretch more than one angle if you fancy something other than a barbel session.
- Carlton Ferry Lane is the access route for the main downstream pegs. The association gives NG23 7LZ for satnav — handy for getting the approach sorted before you head out.
- Parking behind eligible pegs is allowed when ground conditions permit. Don’t count on driving straight to your swim, though: temporary members cannot take vehicles to pegs W1–19, regardless of that general parking provision.
- A day visit means temporary membership, bought from the bailiff on the bank. Fishing is sunrise to sunset; you can approach your peg half an hour beforehand and must leave within half an hour afterwards.
- Planning a cheeky overnight stay? Not as a non-member. Night fishing and overnight stays on association-controlled banks, tracks and car parks are prohibited for non-members, and camping is prohibited too.
Methods: Barbel are the association’s main focus here, with roach, chub and bream also named. Plan your session around the changing tidal level, and have a suitable landing net plus an unhooking mat if you’re specimen fishing.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
