Fiskerton (Horsefield stretch) — River Trent
Fiskerton’s Horsefield stretch is a proper lowland Trent venue, with 85 BDAAS pegs, a mixed coarse line-up and a bit of predator sport too. Day-ticket anglers share the daylight water with BDAAS members, while night fishing is kept for the Horsefield Knights Syndicate.
Run by Barnsley and District Amalgamated Angling Society (BDAAS), with the Horsefield Knights Syndicate (HKS/ABF) running night fishing · checked 13 Oct 2026

The lowdown
- The BDAAS fishery runs from peg 1 to peg 85. Anything above peg 85 is private, so don’t fancy your chances there — it must not be fished.
- It’s classic lowland Trent stuff, with river carp, barbel, chub, bream and silver fish on the menu, plus pike and zander if you fancy a predator session.
- A day permit lets you fish with two rods. That gives you plenty of scope for a feeder line and a second rod, or doubling up when the river’s really on the munch.
- Barbed hooks are allowed, though BDAAS prefers micro-barbed hooks. Keep barbel and carp out of keep nets, and remember that fish must not be retained.
- The usual river methods should fit the water nicely: trotting and feeder work for the silver fish, with robust barbel tackle when there’s a bit of colour and pace in the river.
- Pike fishing is restricted to dead bait or spinning. Live baiting is a firm no-no, so pack the right gear before heading down.
- Access leaves Fiskerton village, passes the Post Office, then reaches a BDAAS-signed partial-tarmac track after roughly 600 yards. Use authorised entrances and shut every gate behind you.
- The private car park is for BDAAS members and day-ticket holders only. Its gate is locked 30 minutes after sunset, and overnight sleeping in the venue car park is prohibited.
- After flooding, the banks can turn slippery and treacherous. Take care around the pegs, especially when carrying tackle, and don’t assume the towpath is bob on underfoot.
- Night fishing runs from sunset to sunrise, but only for Horsefield Knights Syndicate members. The syndicate is operated by the Association of Barbel Fishers, with membership capped at 105.
Methods: For daylight sessions, try trotting or feeder fishing for silver fish, chub and bream, then fish heavier for barbel and carp when the river has a bit of colour. Pike work is dead bait or spinning only.
