The lowdown
- Get the boundaries bob on before you settle into a swim. Federation water starts at the end of the first meadow, and the Federation has no fishing rights in that first meadow.
- The downstream boundary sits 100 yards above Hazelford Weir. That’s the stopping point for this fishery, so don’t take the Upper Weir name as permission to fish right down to the weir itself.
- There are 15 pegs here, with a short walk from the road to the fishing. Follow the approach through Bleasby, picking up the signs towards Hazelford Ferry rather than making the journey a guessing game.
- Parking is on both sides of the road just beyond the former Star & Garter pub. Leave proper room for residents, farm machinery and emergency vehicles — getting your kit unloaded mustn’t block anyone’s way.
- Bank access is through the five-bar gate on the left of the road. Close it securely behind you after passing through; it’s a small bit of bank etiquette that’s easy to get right.
- Fancy a float session? The Federation recommends stick-float fishing for roach. That gives you a clear starting point for a trotting approach, rather than treating every peg as a feeder-only job.
- For larger fish, the holder points towards feeder fishing in stronger flows. Roach, bream and barbel are named by the Federation, giving you a useful steer when choosing what tackle to bring.
- Sort your access around the session you want. Non-members can fish on day tickets, but nights are for full members with photographic ID cards. The published closed season is 15 March to 15 June inclusive.
Methods: Try the holder’s recommended stick-float approach for roach. In stronger flows, feeder fishing is the suggested option for larger fish.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
