We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • There are 29 permanent pegs on the road stretch, so it’s nicely laid out rather than a full-on jungle bash.
  • The water sits near Stoke Bardolph, with the gated access road approached from the village by the Ferry Boat Inn. Parking is behind the peg, which is pretty bob on for hauling your kit.
  • This is day-ticket water only according to the road-stretch page. Don’t wander above or below the marked boundaries, and definitely don’t fish beyond locked gates — that can be treated as illegal fishing.
  • The club lists carp, pike, zander, barbel, chub, roach and bream at Stoke Bardolph. Plenty there to keep things interesting, whether you fancy a feeder session or a proper predator chuck.
  • For coarse fishing, the Trent gives you options. Look for the crease, steadier water and any depth changes around the pegs. A feeder approach or a bit of trotting should cover the basics, depending on how much pace is pushing through.
  • The river closed season runs from 15 March to 15 June inclusive, and the club says its closed-season rules apply. Check the rules before setting off, especially if you’re planning a predator session.
  • Pike fishing is banned on the day-ticket water from 1 April to 30 September. The club specifically asks anglers to read the predator-angling section of its rules, so don’t wing it.
  • Night fishing is listed as available at Stoke Bardolph generally, but the road-stretch page only describes day tickets and does not authorise overnight fishing there. That distinction matters.
  • Close and lock the gate every time you enter or leave. Drive slowly on the access lane, as local dog walkers use it, and take all your litter home. Simple stuff, but proper important.

Methods: A feeder or trotting approach should suit the mixed Trent stock, with the crease, steadier glides and deeper-looking water worth a look. Predator anglers need to stick closely to the club’s rules and the seasonal pike restriction.
