River Severn — Eardington, Albrighton Anglers
The lowdown
- This is Albrighton Anglers’ own bit of the Severn at Eardington, near Bridgnorth. Fishing is on one bank only, so don’t treat membership as a ticket to roam both sides.
- Keep the boundaries bob on: the club guide puts the fishing upstream of Hay Brook’s mouth, ending at the BAA stretch. That brook is your handy landmark for finding the right bit of bank.
- It’s a short stretch, though the club’s two descriptions differ: the venue page says approximately 160 metres, while the access guide says 160 yards. Neither gives you licence to wander beyond the boundary.
- Barbel are the big talking point here. The club calls Eardington a popular barbel area and reports fish exceeding 10 lb, alongside chub to 7 lb. Proper reasons to give this little section a look.
- There’s more than barbel and chub on the list. Pike, perch, roach and dace are named, along with bleak, gudgeon, minnow, eels and trout — a mixed line-up rather than a one-species venue.
- Fancy staying after dark? Members can night fish the river sections. Juniors need a full or senior member with them, so get that sorted before planning a late one on the bank.
- For the approach, follow the B4555 through Eardington towards Highley. The track at the sharp bend beneath the railway heads towards the BAA car park; anglers without BAA membership are directed to the B4555 lay-by.
- The walk in follows Hay Brook to the river. Don’t cut across the field. Membership starts on 1 March, but the coarse close season still runs from 15 March through 15 June inclusive — keep those dates separate.
Methods: Barbel and chub are the headline targets here, with several smaller species named too. The club gives no specific method recommendations or swim-by-swim flow and depth details.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
