River Severn — Hampton Loade Left Bank
Hampton Loade gives BAA members over three miles of continuous left-bank fishing on the Shropshire Severn. Barbel and chub are the main draw, with swimfeeder and ledger tactics getting the holder’s nod.

River Severn — Hampton Loade Left Bank
The lowdown
- There’s a proper length of river here: over three miles of continuous fishing, all on the left bank. Birmingham Anglers Association Limited runs the stretch, so make sure your membership is sorted before heading down.
- Barbel and chub take centre stage in the holder’s description. If those are your thing, they’re the obvious fish to build a session around rather than arriving with a plan for an unnamed species.
- It’s not just about those two, either. BAA also lists pike, roach and dace for Hampton Loade Left Bank, giving the stretch a broader fish list than the headline barbel-and-chub pairing might suggest.
- For tactics, keep the holder’s advice front and centre: swimfeeder and ledger. Those are the specifically recommended approaches here, so a feeder or ledger setup is a sensible starting point when sorting your tackle.
- Getting there is fairly straightforward on paper. Come off the A442 onto the road signed Hampton Loade and National Trust river parking, then use the National Trust car park beside the former ferry.
- There’s a handy parking perk for members: BAA says there’s no parking fee. Display your BAA guidebook or car sticker so your vehicle can be identified, rather than leaving that little job until later.
- Watch the clock, though. The published car-park gate hours are 08:00 to 18:00. For earlier access, get the code from the BAA office beforehand; it changes on the first day of every month.
- This is a members-only, no-night-fishing stretch, not somewhere for a cheeky day-ticket session. Bring the appropriate Environment Agency licence too, and remember BAA’s rule that caught fish must go back into the water.
Methods: BAA recommends swimfeeder and ledger tactics here. With barbel and chub the principal named species, those are the obvious starting points for your session.
