River Trent – Kings Bromley

Kings Bromley gives Burslem Izaak Walton Angling Society members roughly 1.5 miles of Staffordshire Trent, with deep runs and shallow glides to get stuck into. It’s members only, and membership is full for 2026.

The lowdown

  • There’s approximately 1.5 miles of river here, so this isn’t just a tiny pocket of Trent. Kings Bromley is specifically listed among Burslem Izaak Walton Angling Society’s waters, with access through society membership.
  • Deep runs and shallow glides are the main ingredients. That gives you two quite different sorts of water to think about when choosing a swim, rather than treating the whole stretch as one uniform bit of river.
  • For the glides, trotting is an approach worth considering; for the deeper runs, think about how a feeder presentation might suit the flow. Those are starting points for tackling the stated water character, not promises of a productive peg.
  • The named fish give you plenty to mull over: dace, roach, perch and bream, plus chub, barbel, pike and carp. Small numbers of trout and grayling are also reported, so don’t mistake those for the main attraction.
  • Overhead power cables are the big safety point here. Fishing within 30 metres is prohibited, and rods or poles longer than four metres are banned on waters affected by overhead lines. No room for a cheeky exception.
  • Night fishing at Kings Bromley is included in the published permit prices, along with postage. That’s handy for members planning a longer session, but it isn’t a separate night-ticket offer or a way around membership.
  • Fancy joining? Membership is full for 2026, with a waiting list open for 2027. Permits are posted out only, so sort the membership side before making plans to fish.
  • Bank side, peg count and parking arrangements aren’t specified. Keep those practical bits on your pre-trip checklist, and remember the society can close its waters at any time.

Methods: Consider trotting the shallow glides or a feeder approach in the deep runs, matching your presentation to the swim. Keep the two-rod maximum and overhead-line restrictions firmly in mind.
