We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is one of WWAA’s four River Trent stretches, right by Rugeley in Staffordshire. A compact venue rather than a massive wander.
- The stretch is described by WWAA as short, with around seven pegs. Nice and straightforward, then — no epic trek needed between swims.
- Parking is behind the pegs, although the full parking details are supplied with membership. Handy, but you’ll need to be signed up to get the proper lowdown.
- WWAA names chub, roach, perch and pike as present here. It also lists grayling and dace, though those aren’t included in the site’s species categories.
- Night fishing is permitted, and WWAA doesn’t charge extra for it. That gives members a bit more flexibility when planning a proper session.
- Full access and venue details come with membership. So the finer bits of the stretch — pegs, routes and local layout — are kept for members rather than published openly.
- WWAA was formed in 2017 by fishermen from the Rugeley area. The association controls the fishing rights on this stretch.
- Membership runs from 1 January to 31 December. Full adult membership is £50, with no joining fee.
- WWAA aims to keep membership around 75 anglers so its venues aren’t overfished. At the moment, though, there’s a waiting list and no new members are being taken.
- Under-16s may fish when accompanied by a WWAA member. WWAA doesn’t issue junior season tickets, and it doesn’t sell day tickets.
Methods: The checked details don’t set out specific tactics or swim-by-swim methods. With the venue being short and compact, members should use the full access and venue information supplied by WWAA for the practical fishing detail.
