The lowdown
- The Bidford section is on the left bank, starting beyond the hedge that separates the recreation ground from the adjoining field.
- Access is nice and straightforward from the recreation ground beside Bidford Bridge. There’s a parking fee there, then it’s a walk downstream along the bank to reach the BAA water.
- Marlcliff gives you another handy way in. Cross Bidford Bridge, take the first right towards Marlcliff, turn right in the village, then left down the riverside track.
- Parking is available waterside at Marlcliff, or in the BAA car park. The Marlcliff access can also be used to reach the Bidford section, which is a useful bit of flexibility.
- The Marlcliff water includes access to the weir area, with the weir island included in the B section. That should give the stretch a bit more feature variety than a plain bank run.
- Depths vary from approximately 3 to 10 feet, so there’s a fair change of water to explore rather than everything fishing at one level.
- The rights holder names chub, roach, dace, bream, tench and barbel. A proper Warwickshire Avon coarse line-up, with plenty to keep you busy through the seasons.
- BAA describes this as a firm favourite because of its good access. Handy if you don’t fancy a full-on faff getting from car to peg.
- This is a typical accessible Warwickshire Avon stretch near Bidford-on-Avon and Marlcliff. Check the water carefully, work through the depth changes and make the most of the weir area at Marlcliff.
Methods: The changing depth gives you different water to pick apart, while the named chub, roach, dace, bream, tench and barbel offer a broad coarse-fishing target list. Marlcliff’s weir area adds an extra feature to investigate.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
