Myton Road, Warwickshire Avon

A broad, steady Warwickshire Avon stretch upstream of Warwick Castle, with a big head of fish and plenty of options. It’s club members only, with proper bream, roach and carp sport on offer.

Run by Warwick & District Angling Association · checked 6 Oct 2026 · boundaries only partly described by the club

The lowdown

  • The river is broad here, with a regular, slow flow that makes it a comfortable spot to fish. Nothing too frantic, so you can settle in and get your rig working properly.
  • Access from Myton Road is easy, and the public car park in the park keeps the faff down. It’s also a handy choice if you’re carrying a fair bit of kit.
  • There are several fishing styles to have a go at. Waggler fishing can turn up mixed bags, while pole fishing for roach is specifically mentioned as a solid option.
  • The stretch holds a large head of fish. That’s the big draw, especially when you fancy building a bag rather than waiting all day for one bite.
  • Bream shoals are the match angler’s prize. Find them feeding and bags can push beyond 40 lb, with the club-record match weight standing at 42 lb.
  • Individual bream can reach around 9 lb, so don’t assume every broad-backed fish is a small skimmer. A decent net is well worth having ready.
  • Carp are present too, with fish reported over 30 lb. Double-figure carp are described as the mainstay, and normal river carp tactics suit ordinary flow conditions.
  • Club matches are held regularly, so the swims can clearly produce when the fish are in the right mood. Keep an eye on the crease and likely feeding areas rather than charging about.
  • The photographed section near the railway bridge has very little flow, which fits the generally gentle character of this water. Bivvying is not allowed, although anglers can stay well into darkness if they cause no disturbance and leave the pitch spotless.
  • We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.

Methods: Waggler and pole fishing are both noted, with mixed bags and roach possible. For carp, normal river carp tactics are suitable under ordinary flow conditions.
