Wick Grange

Wick Grange is a cracking 750-metre stretch of the Warwickshire Avon at Wick, just upstream of Pershore. It’s got 30 pegs, a big 22-foot hole and plenty of options, from stick-float work to proper predator fishing.

Run by Bridgwater Angling Association · checked 6 Oct 2026

The lowdown

  • This is a relatively comfy bit of river compared with the Severn, and it’s less prone to flooding than many Severn waters. Handy stuff when the weather turns a bit fruity.
  • The main channel runs roughly 11 to 13 feet deep, with the riverbed mostly clay. So there’s depth here, not just shallow scrapes and skinny glides.
  • The Big U bend is the headline feature. Its summer-depth hole drops to about 22 feet, making it a proper fish-holding area when conditions are right.
  • Gravel patches are worth a close look too. They’re picked out as productive fish-holding features, so don’t ignore the less dramatic-looking water.
  • Bank ledges turn up across most areas. They’re formed by bank slips, though, and can be unstable — take care getting in and out of swims.
  • The association says the stretch lends itself nicely to stick-float fishing. A tidy float approach through steady water should be right on the money.
  • There’s scope for plenty of other methods as well. Feeder work and sensible searching around the deeper features are both part of the mix.
  • Predator anglers are well catered for, with perch, pike and zander fishing described as good. The named river residents also include barbel, chub, bream, rudd, roach, dace, eel and carp.
  • Night fishing is allowed with the right membership or entitlement, but contact Tom Miekle before heading out after dark. Keep swims clear, stay with baited rods and bring proper unhooking and landing-net kit for carp and pike.

Methods: It’s a versatile stretch, with stick-float fishing specifically recommended by the association alongside feeder work and predator fishing for perch, pike and zander. The deep Big U bend, main channel and gravel areas are the obvious places to investigate.
