River Teme – Broadwas

Broadwas is Docklow Pools’ own bit of the Worcestershire River Teme: a slow, deep, properly natural stretch with barbel and chub in the mix. It’s a quiet alternative to the main pools, but access is for Docklow members and residents only, with a booking-in faff before you head down.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • This is private River Teme fishing near Broadwas, just off the A44 between Worcester and Bromyard. Docklow Pools owns the fishing rights, though not necessarily the surrounding land.
  • The water is described as slow and deep, so expect steady-looking swims rather than a rattly, shallow stream. Barbel and chub are the named targets here.
  • Parking is in Docklow’s own field, then it’s down a flight of steps to the river. Worth bearing in mind if you’re carrying a mountain of kit.
  • Most swims involve a walk, and there are no dug-out pegs or concrete platforms. It’s natural riverbank fishing, not a polished commercial venue.
  • Some pegs between the access ramp and the woods are awkward to fish or reach. The woods at the lower end give another access area to explore.
  • The river stretches are strimmed out in June ready for the new season. That should make getting about a bit less of a battle, while keeping the place feeling properly wild.
  • With slow, deep water, trotting and feeder work are the obvious starting points, especially when you can pick out a crease or steadier edge. Keep things mobile until you find signs of fish.
  • It’s more than 20 minutes from the main Docklow Pools site, so this is a separate, quieter river day rather than a quick wander from the pools.
  • The river can be dangerous, and anglers fish at their own risk. Take care on the steps, banks and awkward pegs, and don’t assume every swim will be easy to reach.
  • We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.

Methods: A natural slow, deep river where trotting or feeder fishing are sensible approaches for the named barbel and chub. Keep mobile, fish the steadier features and allow extra time for the walks between swims.
