Who it suits

Is it right for you?

Great for

  • Predator anglers fishing long sessions or overnight. The enclosed shelter, breathable fabric, ventilation and useful peak make it well suited to sitting out through changing weather and bite-time.
  • Carp and coarse anglers wanting a tidy one-man bivvy. It offers a proper shelter package without dragging a full two-man setup to the bank.

Maybe skip if

  • Anglers carrying kit a long way to remote swims. The 8.5kg weight is manageable, but there are lighter shelters if every gram matters.
  • Anyone wanting loads of living space. The footprint is compact, so a large bedchair, bait gear, bags and wet clothing can soon make the inside feel busy.

Quick verdict

The verdict

The Prologic Avenger 1 Man Bivvy looks like a smart bit of kit for anglers who want a compact shelter without stripping things back too far. The 10,000mm waterproof fabric, proper groundsheet, condenser wrap and 360-degree ventilation give it the bones of a reliable all-season setup.

It isn’t the roomiest one-man shelter around, and the 8.5kg carry weight means it’s not exactly featherlight. Still, for a predator angler needing somewhere solid to sit through a long night, or a carp angler wanting a tidy one-man bivvy with useful extras, it’s a bob-on package.

The full rundown

Everything you'll want to know about the Prologic Avenger 1 Man Bivvy

A one-man bivvy has to earn its keep. You want enough room for a bedchair, bags and a bit of tackle, but you don’t want to lug a massive shelter round the lake like you’re moving house. That’s where the Prologic Avenger 1 Man Bivvy makes a fair bit of sense.

It’s pitched as a compact shelter for the angler who spends proper time on the bank. Predator lads doing long nights will see the appeal straight away, especially when the weather turns a bit moody. It also makes plenty of sense for a carp or coarse angler who wants a neat overnighter setup without going full two-man.

The fabric is a lightweight, double-coated 210D material with a 10,000mm hydrostatic head. In plain English, that’s a decent level of waterproofing for British rain, drizzle and the occasional biblical downpour. It’s also breathable, which matters when you’re zipped in overnight and don’t fancy waking up in a damp little sauna.

The two-rib frame keeps the design straightforward and relatively compact. There’s a retractable, roll-up peak section at the front too. That’s dead handy for keeping a bit of rain off the doorway, sheltering the entrance from drizzle and giving you a touch more protection when you’re watching rods or keeping an eye on a predator rig.

Ventilation is one of the better bits here. Prologic’s Pro-Vent 360-degree system uses one large rear vent and two side vents. Open them up when conditions allow and you’ve got a much better chance of shifting stale air and condensation. The front door adds a mosquito-mesh window, which is spot on on warm summer nights when you want airflow without inviting every flying thing in the county.

That mesh window has dual zips, so you can open it as much or as little as you need. Little details like that make a difference during a session. You can crack the door for a look at the rods, keep the bivvy ventilated, or stay tucked away when the rain’s hammering down and the swim is looking decidedly grim.

The included condenser wrap is another useful touch. Nobody enjoys peeling back a wet, clammy shelter first thing in the morning. A wrap can help manage condensation and add another layer between you and the weather, particularly through colder nights. It also helps the bivvy feel more settled when the wind gets up, though sensible pitching and decent pegging still matter.

Inside, the dimensions measure 135 by 260 by 220cm. That gives you a useful one-man footprint, but don’t mistake it for a palace. A bedchair, sleeping bag, rucksack, bait tubs and wet waterproofs will soon fill the available floor. Keep your kit tidy and it should be comfortable; bring the kitchen sink and things may get a bit cosy.

The Avenger arrives with a heavy-duty groundsheet, tension poles and heavy-duty pegs, so you’re not immediately raiding the tackle cupboard for missing bits. The double rod retainers are particularly handy for predator work, where you may want the rods secure while sorting tackle or waiting for a bite. The heavy-duty MCP carry bag should make packing the whole lot away less of a faff.

At 8.5kg, it’s not a superlight shelter. For a short walk from the car, that’s hardly a deal-breaker. For a remote loch, canal towpath or big reservoir where you’re barrowing kit for miles, you’ll feel the weight. Packed size is 148 by 23cm, so it’s fairly manageable, but this is more about solid everyday shelter than stripping your load to the bare minimum.

Our take

A compact shelter with the right extras

The Avenger’s main appeal is that it gives you more than a bare-bones bivvy. You get a heavy-duty groundsheet, tension poles, pegs, condenser wrap, rod retainers and a proper carry bag in the package. That means less faff before the rods are out and fewer extras to buy straight away.

What you’re buying

A proper one-man package, not just a shell

The Avenger uses a tough, lightweight two-rib construction and a waterproof, breathable double-coated 210D fabric. The 10,000mm hydrostatic head gives it a reassuring level of wet-weather protection, while the retractable peak adds cover around the entrance.

The Pro-Vent 360-degree setup is made up of one large rear vent and two side vents. Add the mosquito-mesh front window and you’ve got several ways to keep air moving, which is especially useful through warmer nights or when condensation starts building.

It’s well equipped from the off. The heavy-duty groundsheet, condenser wrap, tension poles, pegs, carry bag and double rod retainers are all included. That’s less shopping, less faff and a better chance of getting from the car to fishing before the bite-time disappears.

Worth knowing. The two-rib design helps keep the shelter compact, but the internal space remains firmly one-man. Pack smart. Keep spare clothing and tackle bags organised, and don’t expect room for loads of bulky kit.

On the bank

Best for long nights and compact setups

Predator anglers are the obvious audience. If you’re sitting over deadbaits, watching floats or waiting for a screaming take through the night, the Avenger gives you a proper weather shelter without taking up a huge amount of swim.

It’ll also suit carp anglers fishing short overnighters or campaigners who prefer a smaller footprint. The front peak is useful in rain, the vents help keep the air bearable and the rod retainers stop rods becoming a nuisance when you’re moving around the swim.

It’s less appealing if you regularly carry everything deep into the wilds. The 8.5kg weight is reasonable for the shelter you’re getting, but lightweight specialists can go lighter. Likewise, anglers who want a chair, bedchair, cooking kit and stacks of clothing inside may find it a bit cramped.

Worth knowing. Pitch the rear vent away from the worst of the wind where possible, tension the poles properly and use the supplied pegs. A compact shelter is only as good as its setup when the weather kicks off.

The stuff anglers ask

Quick answers before you buy

Is it suitable for winter? The waterproof fabric, condenser wrap, groundsheet and enclosed design make it a sensible choice for colder sessions. You’ll still need a decent sleeping bag and sensible layering, and no bivvy should be treated as a substitute for safe winter prep.

Does it have enough ventilation? For a one-man bivvy, the combination of a large rear vent, two side vents and a mesh front window is useful. Open the vents whenever conditions allow, especially after cooking or when wet gear comes inside.

Is it genuinely quick to live with? The supplied poles, pegs, groundsheet and carry bag make the package straightforward. The main trade-off is space: keeping your layout tidy will make the shelter feel far more comfortable.

Worth knowing. The Avenger is best viewed as a compact, well-equipped shelter for one angler. It’s not trying to be a living room, and buying it with that expectation will leave you gutted.
