Quick verdict

A top-drawer one-man shelter

The Tempest RS 100 is a premium bivvy that gets the important stuff right: rapid pitching, proper weather protection, useful ventilation and a generous bundle of extras. It’s a cracking option for long sessions when you want a compact shelter without feeling boxed in.

The sting is the size, weight and price bracket. At 14.6kg all-in, it’s not exactly a cheeky little day-session shelter. But if you’re after a dependable one-man base for serious carp or predator work, this is a very strong bit of kit.

The full rundown

Everything you'll want to know about the Trakker Tempest RS 100 Bivvy

The Trakker Tempest RS 100 is the sort of bivvy you look at when a basic shelter just won’t cut it anymore. It’s a premium one-man job, built for proper nights on the bank rather than a quick kip between lunchtime and tea. Compact enough for a single swim, but roomy enough to stop your kit feeling piled up like a tackle-shop burglary.

At its heart, this is a quick-erect shelter. The Rapid Knuckle System locks the five main poles into position, so you’re not wrestling with a floppy frame while the rain comes sideways. That matters when you’ve got rods to sort, a swim to set up and a bite-time approaching. Less faff means more time getting the spot right.

The frame uses an advanced GRP composite block, designed to be lightweight, strong and fatigue-resistant. In plain English, it’s built to handle repeated pitching and packing away without turning into a creaky old nuisance. That’s especially useful if you’re doing plenty of sessions across the season rather than leaving the bivvy up for one long campaign.

The fabric is where the serious weather credentials come in. Enhanced Aquatexx multi-layer breathable material gives the Tempest RS 100 a 25,000mm hydrostatic head rating. That’s a proper level of water resistance for soggy nights, heavy showers and those grim all-day downpours that make the kettle taste even better.

You also get six vents for adaptive ventilation. Crack them open when conditions allow and you can encourage airflow through the shelter, helping to manage condensation and keep the inside less clammy. They won’t magically defeat every bit of damp air, but they’re a dead handy feature when you’re sleeping, cooking or sorting rigs inside.

For a one-man bivvy, the dimensions are nicely practical. The external footprint measures 150cm high, 265cm wide and 225cm deep, with an internal space of 145cm high, 260cm wide and 220cm deep. That gives you room for a bedchair, luggage and a bit of breathing space around your kit.

The little details are bob on too. Two magnetic rod straps let you secure rods against the shelter while you’re getting organised, and four internal mesh storage pockets give you somewhere sensible for head torches, receiver, keys and those tiny bits that otherwise vanish into the darkness. No more rummaging about like a numpty when a screaming take kicks off.

It’s supplied with two Quicksticks, a groundsheet, tension strap, clear window and T-pegs, all packed into an NXG carry bag. That’s a strong bundle straight out of the bag. You’re not immediately adding a load of must-have extras before the shelter feels complete, which helps justify some of the premium price.

The trade-off is portability. The shelter itself weighs 9.4kg, while the complete package comes in at 14.6kg. That’s not outrageous for a full-featured bivvy, but it is a fair lump if you’re crossing a big venue with everything on your back. For barrow-based sessions, longer stays and fixed swims, it makes far more sense.

On the bank, the Tempest RS 100 suits an angler who wants a dependable base camp without moving to a bigger two-man model. It’s quick, tough and properly equipped. If your sessions involve wet weather, cold nights and a fair bit of kit, this is the sort of shelter that lets you concentrate on the rods instead of worrying about the roof.

Our take

Why it stands out

The big draw is how much shelter you get without stepping up to a two-man footprint. The five-pole Rapid Knuckle System makes the frame quick to lock into place, while the GRP composite block keeps the structure strong without making the whole thing needlessly hefty.

You also get a proper package rather than a bare shell. Groundsheet, Quicksticks, T-pegs, clear window, tension strap and storage bag are all included, so there’s less faff and fewer extra quid to find before your first session.

Frame, fabric and session-ready details

A premium one-man setup with very little missing

The Tempest RS 100 uses five main poles with Trakker’s Rapid Knuckle System. The poles lock into position through an advanced GRP composite block, giving the shelter a strong, stable structure without relying on a bulky metal frame. It’s the sort of design that keeps pitching straightforward when the weather’s turning a bit spicy.

The enhanced Aquatexx multi-layer breathable fabric is backed by a 25,000mm hydrostatic head rating. That’s serious wet-weather protection, while the breathable construction and six vents help keep the inside more comfortable during long nights. Use the vents whenever the weather allows, particularly after sleeping or cooking inside.

The included kit is one of the big wins. Groundsheet, clear window, tension strap, two Quicksticks and T-pegs are all supplied, along with the NXG carry bag. The magnetic rod straps are handy during setup, and the four mesh pockets stop small essentials disappearing under a bedchair.

Worth knowing. The 14.6kg all-in weight includes the pegs, Quicksticks and carry bag. If you’re walking to a distant swim, plan the load properly. On a barrow or for a longer static session, the weight becomes much less of a headache.

The right shelter for the right session

Built for anglers who want comfort without a two-man footprint

This is a strong choice for carp anglers doing overnight or multi-day sessions. There’s enough internal room for a bedchair, luggage, clothing and tackle, while the one-man footprint keeps it practical in tighter swims. The clear window is useful when you want to keep an eye on the weather or outside activity without opening the front up.

Predator anglers can get plenty from it too, especially when static sessions mean long periods waiting for the rods to do something. The internal pockets keep release kit, head torches and alarms’ associated bits close to hand, while the ventilation helps when you’re spending a full night inside.

It’s less suited to ultra-mobile fishing. If you’re hopping between swims with a light rucksack, this is more shelter than you need and more weight than you’ll fancy. Likewise, if you regularly fish with a mate or need loads of room for several rods and bags, step up to a larger shelter instead.

The stuff you’ll want to know

Quick answers before you commit your quid

Does it pitch quickly? Yes. The Rapid Knuckle System is designed to lock the five main poles into position quickly, making it a good option when you’re arriving in poor weather or need to get settled before bite-time. You’ll still want to peg it properly and use the tension strap when conditions are rough.

Is it suitable for heavy rain? The 25,000mm HH fabric rating gives it strong protection against wet weather. Pitching, pegging and tensioning still matter, though. A good shelter can only do its job properly when it’s set up square and secure.

Can you keep rods secure while setting up? Yes. The shelter includes two magnetic rod straps, which are useful for holding rods safely while you sort the rest of the swim. They’re a small feature, but very handy when you’re setting up solo.

  • Rapid Knuckle System makes pitching and packing away much less of a faff.
  • Six vents help manage condensation and airflow through the night.

Worth knowing

  • 14.6kg all-in is a fair lump to carry across a long walk.
  • Premium price won’t suit anyone building a shelter setup on a tight budget.
  • The internal height and footprint are generous for one, but it won’t replace a proper two-man bivvy.
