Who it suits

Is it right for you?

Great for

  • Two anglers sharing a swim. There’s proper width and depth for two beds, tackle and the usual session clutter without everyone climbing over each other.
  • Long-session carp and coarse anglers. The black-out fabric, ventilation and high waterproof rating are useful when you’re living out of the bivvy through changeable weather.

Maybe skip if

  • Mobile anglers fishing short sessions. The weight and packed size are a fair old lump when you’re moving between swims or travelling light.
  • Anglers on small or restricted pegs. The 380cm width and 290cm depth need plenty of room, so check the swim before you lug it down the bank.

Quick verdict

Verdict: a cracking home-from-home

The Tempest RS 200 is a serious two-man shelter with loads of room, strong weather protection and a clever frame system that should make set-up far less of a faff than with a traditional bivvy.

It’s big, heavy and a proper investment, mind. For longer carp or coarse sessions, that extra space and comfort look spot on. For quick overnighters or tight swims, it’s a bit much.

The full rundown

Everything you'll want to know about the Trakker Tempest RS 200

There’s bivvies, and then there’s the Trakker Tempest RS 200. This is a proper two-man shelter built for anglers who want room to spread out, stay dry and ride out a longer session without feeling boxed in. It’s not the sort of thing you chuck over your shoulder for a cheeky few hours, though. This is a big bit of kit.

At 380cm wide and 290cm deep, it gives you a cracking amount of living space. Two beds, tackle bags, food, clothing and a bit of general bank clutter should fit without turning the place into a game of fishing-themed Tetris. The 170cm height also gives you more headroom than a low-profile shelter, which is dead handy when you’re getting changed or sorting rigs inside.

The main attraction is the frame. Trakker uses an advanced GRP composite hinge block with its Rapid Knuckle System, which locks all five main poles into position. That should make the whole pitching routine more straightforward, especially when the weather’s doing its best to make you grumpy. Get the frame opened, secure the poles and then tension the shelter properly before pegging it down.

Those poles are black, textured and powder-coated, with an anti-twist finish. That sounds like a small detail, but anything that helps stop the frame rotating or slipping while you’re putting the shelter up is welcome. On a large bivvy, a stable frame makes a difference. You don’t want to be wrestling a saggy roof while rain runs down the back of your neck.

The fabric is the serious bit. The multilayer Aquatexx material carries a 25,000mm hydrostatic head rating, so it’s aimed at proper wet-weather protection rather than just keeping off a light shower. The built-in peak also helps reduce water running through the doorway when you’re opening up after a downpour. That’s the sort of practical touch you appreciate when the rods are off and the sky has turned black.

Trakker has added black-out pigment to the material as well. This helps reduce light and heat ingress, while also limiting sun damage. In summer, that should make the bivvy less greenhouse-like, and it’ll help keep things darker when you’re trying to kip after a night of fizzing alarms. It’s not magic, mind. Open the doors and windows when the sun’s hammering down.

Adaptive ventilation is another useful feature. Airflow can help reduce condensation and lower internal temperatures, which matters when two anglers are breathing, cooking and generally occupying the same shelter for hours on end. You’ll still want to use the vents sensibly. In damp weather, a bit of airflow is often better than sealing every flap shut and waking up to a dripping ceiling.

Storage is well thought through too. There are four internal pockets, including two with hanging points, so small essentials can be kept off the ground and close to hand. That’s ideal for headtorches, keys, spools, receivers and the bits you always seem to lose under a bedchair. Two magnetic rod straps are supplied as well, giving you a handy way to secure rods while you’re inside sorting a rig.

The trade-off is size and weight. The shelter weighs 13.8kg, while the full packed weight reaches 20.2kg with pegs, Quick Sticks and carry bag. Add beds, barrow kit and bait, and this isn’t a light stroll to the far end of the lake. But if you fish longer sessions, share a swim or simply like a bit of comfort, the Tempest RS 200 looks like a proper home-from-home rather than just somewhere to hide from the rain.

Our take

The big question: do you need this much bivvy?

The Tempest RS 200 makes most sense when you fish with a mate, take plenty of kit or want room to stay comfortable through a long session. Its 25,000mm Aquatexx material, black-out pigment and adaptive ventilation are aimed squarely at proper all-weather use.

It isn’t a minimalist shelter. At 13.8kg for the shelter and 20.2kg packed with the carry bag, poles, pegs and extras, you’ll want a barrow or a short walk to the swim. But once it’s up, the extra room could be a real bite-time luxury.

What you’re buying

A big, well-equipped two-man shelter

The Tempest RS 200 is built around a five-pole frame, with Trakker’s GRP composite hinge block and Rapid Knuckle System doing the clever work. Once the poles are locked into position, the structure should feel much less fiddly to pitch than a shelter that needs every section carefully assembled. The black textured powder-coated poles are designed to resist twisting, which is handy when you’re tensioning a large bivvy.

The supplied package is generous. Alongside the bivvy, you get a groundsheet, clear window, tension strap, two Quick Sticks, T-pegs and a heavy-duty carry bag. There are also four internal storage pockets, two with hanging points, plus two magnetic rod straps. Keep the small stuff in those pockets and you’ll avoid the usual late-night faff of hunting around beneath the bedchair.

Worth knowing. The footprint is substantial: 380cm wide by 290cm deep. Measure your favourite swims before heading out, especially if you fish narrow platforms, snaggy corners or pegs with limited flat ground.

On the bank

Made for comfort, not quick dashes

This is a strong match for two anglers who want to share a shelter without living shoulder-to-shoulder. There’s room for beds, bags and the kit that builds up during a proper session. It also suits solo anglers who like plenty of space, especially when the forecast is rough and you’re spending more time inside than beside the rods.

The Aquatexx fabric, 25,000mm hydrostatic head and built-in peak all point towards reliable wet-weather use. The black-out pigment should help with brightness and heat, while adaptive ventilation is useful for keeping condensation under control. Open the vents when conditions allow, and use the clear window when you want to keep an eye on the swim without leaving the door fully open.

Worth knowing. At 20.2kg packed, this is barrow territory for most anglers. Plan the route to the swim, and don’t forget the shelter’s 163cm packed length when loading the car.

The useful bits

Answers before you part with the quid

The Tempest RS 200 is a premium two-person bivvy for anglers who value space and weather protection over a lightweight carry. It’s especially well suited to longer carp or coarse sessions where the bivvy becomes your base for a day, night or several days.

Set-up should be helped by the Rapid Knuckle System, which locks all five main poles into position. Once pitched, use the supplied tension strap and Quick Sticks where needed, then peg the shelter properly. With a bivvy this size, getting the tension right is key to keeping the roof neat and helping water run away cleanly.

Worth knowing. The shelter weight is 13.8kg, but the figure that matters on the bank is the total packed weight: 20.2kg including the pegs, Quick Sticks and carry bag.
