We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- East End Farm runs for around half a mile, with no public access. It’s a proper tucked-away club stretch, so getting the access details right matters.
- The water here chops and changes nicely. Shallow runs sit alongside deeper pools, giving you a few different swims to pick from.
- Overhanging trees and rafts add plenty of character. They also create the sort of cover where chub can sit tight, especially when there’s a bit of colour on.
- The club highlights East End Farm for chub fishing, with fish to 6 lb 11 oz recorded in winter 2021–2022. That’s a cracking stamp of fish.
- Roach and dace fishing is described as excellent in late summer and autumn. A float approach in the runs could be bob on when conditions are right.
- Higher winter flows can make East End Farm relatively pacy. Keep an eye on the water and look for steadier edges, crease lines and the deeper pools.
- Barbel were previously notable at East End Farm, although the club says numbers have declined. They’re part of the stretch’s history, but not the main headline now.
- Stafford Bridge offers just under a mile immediately downstream of the bridge. The upstream end is faster, then the river winds through woodland before slowing and deepening downstream.
- Stafford Bridge has produced large catches of chub, with roach, perch and pike also listed by the club. Access is mostly straightforward, with roughly a 290-metre walk from the parking area.
- For East End Farm, parking is followed by a 280-metre walk across a field. Follow the landowner’s parking and access requirements to avoid any faff.
- We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.
Methods: Chub are the main target, with float fishing, trotting or a light feeder suited to the runs, pools and creases. On Stafford Bridge, work the faster water upstream, wooded meanders and slower deeper downstream end.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
