We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- The fishery starts at the inlet to South Lagoon, Peg 1, then runs to the derelict boathouse at Peg 15.
- It carries on beyond the boathouse to the boundary fence behind Heron Lake. That far section is syndicate water, so check your access before settling in.
- The club’s match-booking page lists 40 pegs. There’s a fair bit of water to go at, with the main section clearly pegged from the lagoon inlet onwards.
- Parking is directly behind the swims as far as the nature reserve, which keeps the faff down when you’ve got a barrow full of kit.
- At the nature reserve there’s hard-standing parking and a short walk to the remaining pegs. The club says part of the stretch has good access for less able anglers.
- This is proper mixed river fishing, with carp, pike, chub, zander, tench, perch and roach all named for the venue. Many large bream are also reported.
- Double-figure carp have come from the upstream end, while chub are regularly caught around 5–6 lb. There’s even a reported 7 lb 2 oz venue-record chub.
- Predator anglers have plenty to aim at, with pike to 29 lb and perch over 3 lb reported. Roach can make a serious net too, with nets over 20 lb and individual fish near 2 lb.
- It’s a handy water for switching things up: trotting or feeder work for roach, perch and chub, bigger baits for pike and zander, and carp tactics where the larger fish are showing. Night fishing is allowed, but only for one night at a time.
Methods: A proper all-rounder: trot or feeder for the silvers and chub, then switch to bigger baits for pike, zander or carp. Keep an eye on the flow and fish the crease, slack water and any deeper-looking line.
