River Thames at Cookham — yacht marina to railway bridge

This Cookham stretch of the Berkshire Thames runs from the railway bridge downstream to the yacht marina, offered by TVAA courtesy of Cookham Angling Club. It’s affiliated-club access, with night fishing permitted — but mind the no-fishing frontage by the cottages.

Run by Thames Valley Angling Association · checked 5 Oct 2026 · boundaries only partly described by the club

The lowdown

  • Get the boundaries bob on before settling into a swim: the railway bridge is the published upstream limit, and the yacht marina marks the downstream end. Those are the landmarks to work to.
  • There’s an important gap to keep clear of: fishing in front of the cottages between Cookham Bridge and the yacht marina is prohibited. Being within the wider stretch boundaries doesn’t make that frontage fishable.
  • Access takes a little planning, but the route is straightforward: membership of a TVAA-affiliated club. TVAA doesn’t offer individual membership, and the Cookham listing doesn’t advertise a day ticket for a cheeky one-off session.
  • Night fishing is permitted here, so an evening session needn’t finish just because daylight goes. Keep the same boundaries and bank rules in mind after dark, including the ban on bonfires and barbecues.
  • For parking, there’s a public car park off the B4447, and The Pound car park is chargeable. Sort out your parking arrangements before unloading the tackle rather than leaving yourself a last-minute faff.
  • Bourne End gives you another access option: limited roadside parking, followed by a walk across the bridge. The key word is limited — don’t treat that roadside option as a guaranteed space for the car.
  • Keep your swim tidy and leave the bankside alone: no litter, and no cutting trees or vegetation. All fish go back, with no more than two rods in use at once. Follow Check, Clean, Dry too.
  • We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.

Methods: The Cookham listing doesn’t describe depths or name fish, so there’s no firm steer here towards trotting or feeder fishing. Keep your approach flexible and stay within the two-rod limit.
