Windsor Racecourse (Civil Service AS)

A proper mixed River Thames venue run by the Civil Service Angling Society, with roughly 1.5 miles of south bank, the Boveney weir pool, parts of the Millstream and the Overflow Stream. It’s members and permitted ticket holders only — no day tickets — with a busy racecourse setting to factor in.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • The main Thames fishery runs along approximately 1.5 miles of south bank, giving the venue a decent spread of water.
  • The Boveney weir pool is included, alongside the main river. That makes this a mixed fishery rather than one uniform stretch.
  • The Millstream adds more water to explore, with the north bank and part of the south bank included in the Society’s fishing.
  • The west bank of the Overflow Stream is also part of the venue. There’s a fair bit going on here, basically.
  • The Society lists barbel, bream, chub, carp, dace, eel, perch, pike and roach among the fish present.
  • Fishing is only for Society members and permitted ticket holders. There are no day tickets on the Society’s waters, so don’t turn up expecting a cheeky walk-on ticket.
  • Night fishing is allowed for members, but sessions are capped at 48 hours. After that, there must be a 24-hour absence before returning.
  • The racecourse is a working venue, with a 20 mph vehicle limit. Race meetings, fireworks and other declared events can bring no-access or no-fishing periods.
  • Access is through the Society or marina-side entrance. Anglers must not cross the racecourse, and members must not use the main gate unless it’s already open.
  • The main gate has a 6 ft 6 in height restriction. Thames parking is on the grass between the main drive and riverbank where conditions allow, with hard standing near part of the parking area.
  • We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.

Methods: The water is described as a mixed River Thames, weir-pool, Millstream and overflow fishery. The checked details don’t set out specific tactics, so the right approach will depend on the individual water and conditions on the day.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
