River Great Ouse
Lenborough — River Great Ouse
The lowdown
- This is natural coarse-fishing water, not a tidy commercial fishery. Expect meadow, farmland and wooded river-bank countryside around the Great Ouse.
- The club says there are plenty of swims to try, so it’s a case of having a wander and finding a peg that looks right on the day.
- The river bank can vary from open meadow edges to more enclosed, tree-lined sections. Keep an eye out for cover and steady-looking water.
- Chub are the main named draw here, with the club reporting fish to about 4 lb from Lenborough. A lovely target for a roving approach.
- Pike are also reported from the venue, so a bit of predator interest is part of the Lenborough mix.
- For chub, trotting a bait through the crease or presenting a bait in a steady glide should be worth a look when conditions are right.
- A feeder can suit deeper or more settled swims, while a quiet wander with light tackle is a bob-on way to search the water.
- The river coarse-fishing season runs from 16 June to 14 March. Autumn and winter conditions can add a bit of colour and get the chub properly on the munch.
- Access is via the lay-by at Oxlane Bridge. From Lenborough, cross the bridge, use the lay-by on the left, then walk back over and take the footpath on the left.
- Don’t block the lay-by or access routes. It’s a rural venue, so keep the swim tidy and treat any litter at your peg as yours.
Methods: A roving chub approach, trotting and light legering should cover the likely water, with feeder tactics useful in steadier swims. Pike are also present, so choose your tackle and bait with the venue’s rules in mind.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
