We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • This is proper club water on the middle River Great Ouse, reached from River Road in St Neots. A handy local stretch with the river and an associated backwater to explore.
  • Access is a bit tucked away. Head past the bowling club, with the route running between the skate park and allotments. There are two locked gates, so make sure your club access is sorted.
  • The grass car park is the stopping point. The club advises against driving beyond it when the weather turns wet — best not to faff about and risk churning up the track.
  • From the car park, tracks run through the trees to the river and backwater. That gives you a few different bits of water to look at before settling on a swim.
  • The Ouse here isn’t just a quiet little drain. Boats use the surrounding river, and summer traffic can stir things up or put fish off a line, so keep an eye on what’s moving through.
  • Chub, roach, bream, perch and pike are all named as present. There’s a decent spread of likely targets, from silver-fish work to a cheeky predator session.
  • The river close season applies until 16 June 2026. Once the season is open, the backwater may be worth a look when the main river is pushing through or carrying a bit of colour.
  • There’s no published peg count or stretch length, so it’s very much a case of walking the banks and finding the right-looking swim on the day.
  • As a members-only venue, this isn’t one for turning up with a day ticket. Club membership gives unlimited fishing at the club’s venues, with night fishing included on the relevant tickets.

Methods: Trotting and feeder fishing should suit the river and its silver-fish, chub and bream. For perch or pike, keep an eye on quieter edges and the backwater, especially when boat traffic makes the main river lively.
