Shardlow — Pipe Bridge & Boathouse (north bank, downstream past Marina mouth)

A proper club-only River Trent stretch beside Shardlow Marina, covering the Pipe Bridge and Boathouse sections on the north bank. The Pipe Bridge is highly productive, while the Boathouse is deep, slow and noted for some very large fish.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • The Pipe Bridge water runs from the former Shardlow Brewery wall downstream to behind Glazebrooks Pool. DRAC describes it as highly productive, especially in club matches.
  • Carry on downstream and you reach the Boathouse section, running from behind Glazebrooks Pool to the bottom boundary behind the Silt Pool.
  • The Boathouse is deep and slow. That should suit a steady feeder approach, with the crease and any clearer seams worth a look when the river has a bit of colour.
  • It is a navigable River Trent section beside Shardlow Marina, with wooded and industrial village-edge banks. Proper mixed-fish country rather than a one-trick swim.
  • DRAC says specimen fish of most species turn up during the fishing season on the Pipe Bridge section. The Boathouse is said to hold all species, including very large specimens.
  • Parking is available behind most pegs on the Boathouse section, which makes that end the easier option when you have a fair bit of kit to shift.
  • Barbel, bream, chub, carp, dace, perch, pike, roach, rudd, tench and zander are named for the Shardlow waters. There is plenty to target, depending on river conditions.
  • A feeder or float approach should cover the basics. Look for steady depth, slack water and the edges of the flow, then tweak the bait and presentation as the river changes.
  • The stretch is membership-based, not an EA free fishery. Recognised access points must be used, and normal fishing hours vary by month under DRAC rules.
  • Night fishing needs the applicable Trent & Dove night permit, and any permitted session is limited to 24 hours. Keep the peg tidy and return every fish.

Methods: Feeder fishing looks a bob-on starting point in the deep, slow Boathouse water, while trotting or searching the steadier seams could be worth a go on the Pipe Bridge section. Switch things around with the flow and colour.

Key rules

  • All fish must be returned to the water.
  • Live bait is prohibited.
  • Fishing from boats is prohibited.
  • Use recognised access points only; trespassing is prohibited.
  • No dogs or guns are allowed on club waters. No fires, barbecues, tents or camping between fishing sessions.
