Blandford

A cracking 1¾-mile association stretch on the Dorset Stour at Blandford Forum, with town-side river fishing, a weir and footbridge area to explore. It’s mainly for Ringwood & District Anglers Association members or anglers with a valid guest ticket.

Run by Ringwood & District Anglers Association · checked 6 Oct 2026

The lowdown

  • This is urban and riverside fishing, with the Stour winding through Blandford Forum beside the remains of the former railway viaduct.
  • The fishable water runs for approximately 1¾ miles. There’s no published peg count, so expect to find your own swim rather than working to a numbered plan.
  • A weir and footbridge area are key features within the stretch. Worth taking time to look for changes in pace, creases and quieter water around the structure.
  • The named fish are roach, dace, pike, perch, chub and eels. The stretch also holds some grayling, bream and carp.
  • For coarse anglers, the season runs from 16 June to 14 March. Trout and salmon fishing is available in season, subject to the relevant rules and permissions.
  • It’s a proper mixed fishery, so trotting and light float work should suit the steadier runs, while a feeder could be handy when the river carries a bit of colour. Pike and perch give you another string to your bow.
  • Fishing times are sunrise until two hours after sunset. There’s no separate night-fishing permit information listed, and ordinary fishing ends two hours after sunset.
  • Public pay-and-display car parks are available in Blandford town, with extra parking by the bypass bridge in Langton Road. Do not park on the bypass verges — the association says police may take action.
  • Dogs are allowed on leads. Overhead powerlines cross or adjoin the fishing area, so stay at least 20 metres from the cables.
  • We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.

Methods: A versatile bit of river for trotting, float fishing and feeder work, with pike and perch options too. Keep an eye on the flow around the weir and footbridge, and fish within the stated daylight hours.
