GUAA — River Severn at Deerhurst

Deerhurst is a BAA-controlled River Severn stretch running from the chapel to the Coal House pub. It’s tidal, with bream the main target and roach, pike and eels also present — but keep a proper eye on the river, as it can rise several feet in a short time.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • This is the Deerhurst & Apperley water on the Gloucestershire Severn, currently listed by Birmingham Anglers’ Association.
  • The recognised boundary runs from Odda’s Chapel down to the Coal House pub. That gives you a clear bit of river to work with, even though no official length is published.
  • BAA describes the river as tidal. Flows can change quickly, so conditions matter here more than having a rigid plan.
  • The big warning is water height. The river can rise several feet in a short time, so check things properly before settling into a swim.
  • Bream are the main species named for the stretch. Roach are also present, along with pike and eels.
  • It’s coarse-fishing river habitat, so keep your approach tidy and suited to a changing river rather than assuming the flow will stay steady.
  • Access is from Tewkesbury via the A38 and B4213. BAA directs anglers to park near Odda’s Chapel, with Odda’s Chapel car park given as the official location.
  • The parking coordinates supplied by BAA are 51°58′01.07″N, 002°11′30.88″W. Handy if you don’t fancy a faff finding the spot.
  • No night fishing is stated for Deerhurst & Apperley. Stick to daylight fishing and keep your BAA membership card with you if you’re a member.

Methods: A sensible starting point is a coarse approach aimed at bream and roach, with the changing tidal flow and sudden rises kept firmly in mind. Pike are also present, so choose your tackle with the river’s mixed stock in view.
