River Trent – North Clifton
The lowdown
- This is open, tidal River Trent country, with the floodplain and the viaduct/power-station surroundings giving the place a big-river feel.
- There are 45 pegs, so it’s a sizeable stretch and a popular choice for match anglers. Pleasure anglers use it as well.
- The water sits on the eastern bank of the Trent. The river’s tidal nature is the big character point here, so expect the river to have plenty of movement.
- Upper pegs are reached from Trent Lane, North Clifton. The official access postcode is NG23 7AT.
- Lower pegs may be accessed via Church Lane, giving anglers another way onto the section.
- The official access address is Trent Lane, North Clifton. Have a proper look at current LDAA notices before travelling, as access details and local arrangements can change.
- This is a mixed-species stretch according to LDAA, with barbel, bream, carp, chub, eel, perch, roach and rudd named for the association’s waters.
- It’s a venue for both match and pleasure fishing, so the busy feel may vary depending on fixtures and general angling pressure.
- The closed season runs from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. Outside that period, it’s a classic tidal Trent option for anglers who fancy a big, open river.
- There are three parish pegs which must not be fished by LDAA members. They’re off limits, so don’t just pick a peg without checking the local layout and notices.
- We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.
Methods: The stretch suits both match and pleasure fishing. The tidal river is the main consideration, so check the day’s conditions and LDAA notices before setting up.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
