River Trent – South Clifton
A proper quiet, picturesque bit of tidal River Trent, run by Scunthorpe Amalgamated Anglers. South Clifton is fairly isolated and rarely fished, so it should suit anyone after a peaceful session away from the busy bank.

The lowdown
- This is tidal Trent territory, with the river and surrounding flood-bank landscape giving the stretch a cracking, open feel.
- It’s a rarely fished venue according to the club, so there’s less of the usual bank traffic and faff. A bob-on choice for a quieter day.
- The exact stretch length and peg count aren’t stated. Best to explore the accessible bank and look for comfortable swims rather than expecting numbered pegs.
- Access is through the club gate off Church Lane, with a second route from Trent Lane. Turn off the A57 onto the B1133 towards Collingham.
- The Church Lane track finishes at a triangular parking area opposite the old power-station pump house. There’s only limited parking at the end of Trent Lane.
- You can’t drive onto the flood bank. Vehicles must stay in Trent Lane or the downstream car park, with the Trent Lane route also carrying a public footpath.
- The tidal setting means conditions matter. Keep an eye on the flow and water colour, then work the crease, steadier edges and any comfortable-looking glides with care.
- Barbel, chub, roach, perch and bream are named for the stretch, with pike and zander also present. There’s a decent mix for float, feeder and predator anglers.
- The statutory coarse-fish closed season runs from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. Ordinary fishing is dawn to dusk, while night sessions need the proper SAA night permit and advance text notification to the club.
- Take the usual river kit: landing net and unhooking mat are compulsory, and all fish must go back safely and unharmed. Keep it tidy and take every scrap of litter home.
- We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.
Methods: Trotting or feeder work should cover the mixed coarse-fish options, while predator anglers can target the named pike and zander. Read the tide, keep mobile and make the most of any crease or steadier water.
